  1. Revison Test 42 1. The only thing I don't like about this house is that it faces north, so it is difficult to heat it in winter. A. I'm completely satisfied with this house, apart from its facing north, which means that it isn't easily heated in winter. B. This house would be perfect if it didn't face north, because then we wouldn't spend so much trying to heat in winter. C. I don't really like this house because it faces north and thus it is very expensive ti heat during the winter. D. The reason why I do n't like this house is that it is not very easy to heat in winter because it faces north. 2. Some of the football fans began to riot when the referee awarded their rival team a dubious penalty. A. A riot was almost started by the football fans when the opposing team was given a questionable penalty by the referee. B. Although their team had been awarded a dubious penalty decision, some of the football fans still tried to start a riot. C. The referee granted a doubtful penalty to the opposing team, so some of the football fans started to riot. D. A number of football fans found the referee's penalty decision to the rival team so dubious that they protested violently. 3. I'd recommend you to hire a professional to do the decoration of your house instead of doing it on your own. A. O f course, a professional may do a better job on your house, though it is not too difficult for you to do it yourself. B. I can't see why you didn't hire a professional instead of trying to decorate the house by yourself. C. In my opinion, the result would be much nicer if you were to employ a professional to paint your house. D. I think you ought to have your house decorated by a professional rather than do it by yourself. 4. What surprised her was that her painting was chosen the best out of the over fifty entries in the competition. A. She was amazed how quickly they had evaluated the fifty entries at the competition, with hers being chosen the best. B. Of all the paintings taking part in the competition, about fifty were chosen to be further considered, and surprisingly, hers was selected as well. C. Among the more than fifty paintings taking part in the competition, hers was selected as the best, and yet she was not actually expecting this. D. She was stunned when her painting was declared the best, as they'd already evaluated fifty entries before hers. 5. I g uess most people hate doing the ironing more than any other housework. A. I strongly believe that ironing is one of the most unpleasant household duties. B. It's my belief that most people do not detest doing any housework as much as they do ironing. C. Compared to other housework, ironing is the least preferable for most people.

There was a great silence among the footballers after the coach had shouted. D. The footballers were listening to the things that the coach was shouting at them. 8. It was of my o wm free will that I decided to withdraw from the race. A. My withdrawal from the race was a voluntary decision. B. I was willing to complete in the race, but then I withdrew voluntarily. C. They freely accepted my application for a withdrawal from the race. D.
