Nepal has the highest potential per capita water resources in the world, yet it is unable to provide a reliable water supply to its capital. A. N owhere in the world has as much water as Nepal, but the problem is getting it to the country's capital. B. Although in theory there is more water per person in Nepal than any other country in the world, the capital is not provided with a reliable water supply. C. The capital of Nepal would not have a reliable water supply were it not for the large amount of water available in the country. D. The people of Nepal enjoy reliable water supplies everywhere in the country, expect in the capital, where the shortage of water is the biggest problem. 3. I see little difference between stealing from the poor and exploiting them for gain. A. In my opinion, exploiting the poor for profit and robbing them is almost exactly the same. B. I'm amazed to see that poor thieves are exploited in a different way for economic advantage. C. I view exploiting the poor for economic advantage as being a little like stealing from them. D. I've noticed that the exploitation of the poor for profit has forced many of them to start stealing. 4. He decided not to take the job after all, as, although the rest of the contract was fine, the holidays were too short. A. A. Besides being so disliked by his boss, Ian also lacked Jack's experience, and therefore he was not promoted. B. Because the boss really didn't like Ian, Jack was promoted, although the two had the same amount of experience. C. Although they had more or less the same amount of experience, because of the boss's hatred, Jack was promoted and Ian wasn't. D. If the boss hadn't hated Ian so much, he would have promoted him instead of Jack, because he had more experience. 9. Because Tsar Nicholas II of Russia ruled with such incompetence, he was thrown from power in a revolution. A. Tsar Nicholas II lost the power to rule Russia, although the revolution had been badly managed. B. Because the revolutionaries found the Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II, to be such an unintelligent ruler, they decided to overthrow him. C.
