Chapter 3: Installing PC Pitstop Optimize 17 If you disagree with the license terms, click the I Do Not Accept the Agreement option, click Next, and the installation will not continue. Step 4 Now you will see the Select Destination Location dialog box, as shown in Figure 3-3. Figure 3-3: Select Destination Location dialog box The default installation folder is C:\Program Files\PCPitstop\ Optimize, which should be ﬁne. If so, click Next to continue. If you wish to select a different folder, click the Browse button, ﬁnd another location, and click OK. Then click Next when you’re done. Step 5 You will now see the Select Start Menu Folder dialog box, as seen in Figure 3-4. Figure 3-4: Select Start Menu Folder dialog box
18 Part II • Optimizing Your PC The default Start Menu Folder is PC Pitstop\Optimize, which should be ﬁne. If so, click Next to continue. If you wish to select a different folder, click the Browse button, browse to another location, and click OK. Then click Next when you’re done. You can also specify not to include the shortcuts in the Start menu by checking the Don’t Create a Start Menu Folder option and click- ing Next. Step 6 You will now see the Select Additional Tasks dialog box, as shown in Figure 3-5. Figure 3-5: Select Additional Tasks dialog box Specify whether or not you would like to create a desktop or Quick Launch icon, by checking the applicable boxes, and click Next to continue. Step 7 Now you will be at the Ready to Install dialog box, as seen in Figure 3-6. If the installation preferences are correct, click Install to start the installation. Otherwise, you can go back and change the preferences.

Figure 3-7: Setup complete dialog box If you don’t want to launch and use the software right away, uncheck the option. To exit the setup wizard, click Finish. Congratulations! PC Pitstop Optimize is now installed on your PC.
4 PERFORMING A SCAN B efore PC Pitstop Optimize can do any opti- mization, it ﬁrst needs to scan your PC for junk ﬁles, invalid system and Internet settings, and other items that should be addressed to ensure maximum PC performance. Then you’ll have the chance to specify exactly which items are removed or changed. Here are the steps performed during a scan, which are discussed in this chapter: Step 1: Open PC Pitstop Optimize Step 2: Specify Initial Settings Step 3: Start the Scan Step 4: Perform the Scan Step 5: Get Rid of Temporary Files Step 6: Optimize Your Internet Settings Step 7: Remove Unnecessary Startup Programs Step 8: Optimize Your Registry Entries Step 9: Optimize Your PC Performance
