  • An efficient 2-component synthesis of a series of 3-(2-(substituted phenylamino)thiazol-4-yl)-2H -chromen-2- ones (3a–j) was achieved by the reaction of 3-(2-thiocyanatoacetyl)-2H -chromen-2-one (1) with a variety of suitably substituted anilines in 1:1 molar ratio in ethanol. The structures of the products were established by elemental analyses, and UV-vis, FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR, and mass spectroscopy. 3-(2-(4-Methylphenylamino)thiazol-4-yl)-2 H -chromen-2- one (3j) was further characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction study.

  • Novel water-soluble metallophthalocyanines (M: Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) containing azo dye were characterized. The structures were confirmed by IR, UV/vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Photochemical properties and aggregation behavior of zinc phthalocyanines were investigated. Singlet oxygen quantum yields of the zinc phthalocyanines (2d, 3d, 5d, and 6d) were 0.8, 0.57, 0.71, and 0.46, respectively.

  • Methyl 4-((9H-(carbazole-9-carbanothioylthio) benzoate (MCzCTB) was chemically synthesized and characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. A novel synthesized monomer was electropolymerized on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in various initial molar concentrations of [MCzCTB] 0 = 1,3,5, and 10mM in 0.1M NaClO4/CH3CN and 1M H2SO4. P(MCzCTB)/GCE was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, Fourier transform infrared-attenuated transmittance reflectance, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

  • Novel hexakisurea and thiourea cyclotriphosphazene compounds (3–7) were synthesized. The structure of all compounds was identified using FT-IR 1H, 13C, and 31P NMR spectroscopy; MALDI-TOF MS; and elemental analysis. The optical sensor properties for anions of 3–7 were investigated using UV-Vis spectroscopy. It was determined that compounds 6 and 7 are spectrophotometric and naked eye sensors for F− and CN− anions, respectively. Sensor properties of these compounds for anions were investigated using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The stoichiometry of host–guest complexes was found to be 1:6.

  • Novel five-membered (κ2−C,N) -palladacyclic complexes were prepared from the reaction of the corresponding acetate-bridged palladacycle dimer with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands in high yields. Palladacyclic complexes (3) were fully characterized by elemental analysis and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Palladacyclic complexes were tested as catalyst for the C–C bond forming reaction. These complexes were found to be efficient catalysts for the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction of aryl bromides.

  • In the current study, cisplatin loaded (Poly(lactic-co-glycolicacid)) (PLGA) stabilized with 4-phenylphenacylbromide based surfactants nanoparticles were developed for drug delivery applications. For the course of this study four new 4-phenylphenacylbromide based compounds abbreviated as PA(C2 )3 , PA(C8 )3 , PAC16 and PAC18 have been synthesized by the reaction of 4-phenylphenacylbromide with various long chain amines. The new surfactants were characterized with 1 H and 13C NMR and FTIR spectroscopy.

  • Calix[4]pyrrole derivatives with bulky substituents at their meso-positions were synthesized via mixed condensation of pyrrole with cyclohexanone and acetophenone derivatives. Anion binding studies, carried out by isothermal titration calorimetry in 1,2-dichloroethane with Cl− and CH3CO−2 anions in the form of their tetrabutylammonium salts, revealed that these new calix[4]pyrrole derivatives can bind the aforementioned anions as effectively as the unsubstituted “parent” system, octamethylcalix[4]pyrrole (1).

  • New azo dyes bearing 2-pyridone and benzimidazole moieties were prepared using diazotization of 4-(1Hbenzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)aniline and coupling of the obtained diazonium salt with substituted 3-cyano-2-pyridones. Obtained compounds were characterized via UV-Vis, FT-IR, and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as by elemental analysis data. The UV-Vis spectra of the synthesized dyes were measured in thirteen solvents of different properties at room temperature. Solvatochromism and tautomerism of novel azo dyes were discussed.

  • The hydrogen bond donating ability of 1,8-naphthalenediol was investigated via a series of 1H, 13C, and 31P NMR experiments. Complexation studies using triphenylphosphine oxide and cyclohexanone as hydrogen bond acceptors revealed that 1,8-naphthalenediol is a more effective hydrogen bond donor compared to 1-naphthol and 8-methoxy-1- naphthol. Afterwards, its effectiveness as a hydrogen bonding catalyst was demonstrated in the Friedel–Crafts-type addition reaction of indole to trans-β -nitrostyrene.

  • New bis(isatins-thio/carbohydrazones) based on Schiff bases were prepared from terephthalaldehyde biscarbohydrazone and 5-substituted isatins in the presence of a drop of sulfuric acid under reflux in ethanol. Terephthalaldehyde bis(thio/carbohydrazone) was synthesized by the reaction of (thio)/carbohydrazide and terephthalaldehyde in the presence of a few drops of acetic acid under reflux in ethanol. The structures of these synthesized compounds were determined using IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

  • Phenyl-4,4-di(3,6-dibutoxyphthalonitrile) (3) was synthesized by the reaction of 1,4-phenylenebisboronic acid (1) and 4-bromo-3,6-dibutoxyphthalonitrile (2), using Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. The newly synthesized compound (3) was characterized by FT-IR, MALDI-MS, ESI-MS, 1 H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and 13C-DEPT-135-NMR.

  • Two naphthalene pyrazole ligands were synthesized using KOH/DMSO and Cu catalyst and characterized with FT-IR, ESIMS, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopies. The crystal structures of 1-(2-methylnaphthalen-1-yl)-1H-pyrazole (MeNap-Pz) ligand have been determined with X-ray crystal structure analysis. Reaction of the ligands with Cu(NO3)2x3.5H2O gave two new complexes and characterized with magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, FT-IR, LCMS-MS, ICP-OES, NMR, thermogravimetric analysis, and ESR spectra.

  • Three fungal metabolites, (1) O-methylsilvaticol, (2) orthosporin and (3) diplosporin were isolated from a rare fungus, Kretzschmaria sandvicensis, collected in Dien Bien, in northwest Vietnam. Their structures were established using a combination of high resolution MS (FT-ICR-MS) and 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HSQC and HMBC spectroscopy. They were evaluated for anticancer properties against the KB cell line.
