This work aimed to introduce nanosized SiO2 into the CS matrix to produce three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds by solvent casting combined with salt leaching using NaCl as a porogen agent. The amount of the porogen to polymer was varied to produce 3D CS/SiO2 scaffolds with suitable pore sizes and porosity.

Ebook "Porous polymeric bioresorbable scaffolds for tissue engineering" discusses the manipulation of polymer chemical structure and composition to tune scaffold physical properties, and optimization of scaffold 3D architecture by a smart use of both fabrication techniques. The multidisciplinary nature of this research is imperative in pursuing the challenge of tissue regeneration successfully.

Regenerative and translational dentistry marks a shift in the paradigm of endodontic and periodontic therapy from simple pulp capping and root planning to dental tissue reconstruction. The construction of complex soft and hard tissue-based dental structures and whole bioengineered tooth aims to repair and refurbish tissues partly or wholly.

In this study, it was aimed to obtain 3D scaffolds using medical grade chitosan (MC) with a high deacetylation degree (DD ≥ 92.6%) to overcome the spheroid formation of rat adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells (rAdMSCs) on control chitosan (C, DD = 75%–85%) scaffolds. Genipin was used as a biological chemical crosslinker, and glycerol phosphate salt was used both as a pH adjusting agent and physical crosslinker.

The purpose of this study was to synthesize S-protected thiolated hyaluronic acid (HA) and to evaluate its potential for 3D cell culture scaffold. S-protected thiolated HA was synthesized by the covalent attachment of Nacetyl-S-((3-((2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl)oxy)-3-oxopropyl)thio)cysteine hydrazide ligand to the HA.

Hydrogels as artificial biomaterial scaffolds offer a much favoured 3D microenvironment for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM). Towards biomimicry of the native ECM, polysaccharides from Nature have been proposed as ideal surrogates given their biocompatibility.

Medical interventions for subchondral bone cysts in horses have been extensively studied. This study investigated the regeneration of articular cartilage and subchondral bone with scaffold-free three-dimensional (3D) constructs of equine synovial membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells (SM-MSCs) isolated from three ponies and expanded until over 1.0× 107 cells at passage 2 (P2).

Artificially fabricated hydroxyapatite (HAP) shows excellent biocompatibility with various kinds of cells and tissues which makes it an ideal candidate for a bone substitute material. In this study, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles have been prepared by using the wet chemical precipitation method using calcium nitrate tetra-hydrate [Ca(NO3)2.4H2O] and di-ammonium hydrogen phosphate [(NH4)2HPO4] as precursors. The composite scaffolds have been prepared by a freeze-drying method with hydroxyapatite, chitosan, and gelatin which form a 3D network of interconnected pores.

Cell culture methods allow the detailed observations of individual plant cells and their internal processes. Whereas cultured cells are more amenable to microscopy, they have had limited use when studying the complex interactions between cell populations and responses to external signals associated with tissue and whole plant development.

In recent years, three-dimensional (3D) in vitro tumor models have become more common in cancer research across the world. Selecting scaffolds, seeding cells into the scaffolds, and culturing them are pivotal for the morphologies and proliferation of cancer cell lines. Therefore, this experience has developed a 3D tumor model based on co-culturing MCF-7 cells and fibroblasts (3:1) into gelatin-alginate scaffolds (3x3x5 mm3 ).

Escherichia coliproteinY (pY) binds to the small ribosomal subunit and stabilizes ribosomes against dissociation when bacteria experience environmental stress. pY inhibits trans-lationin vitro, most probably by interferingwith the binding of the aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosomal A site. Such a translational arrest may mediate overall adaptation of cells to environmental conditions. We have determined the 3D solution structure of a 112-residue pY and have studied its backbone dynamic by NMRspectroscopy. ...
