The active methanol extracts were successively partitioned with organic solvents such n-hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol to yield organic layers. Among of the resulting organic layers, n-hexane and ethyl acetate layers of the two plants displayed effective inhibition against various filamentous fungal and bacterial growth. Through bioassay guided isolation, 1,8 dihydroxy anthraquinones and their derivatives were isolated from those bioactive layers using silica gel, reverse phase and sephadex LH20 column chromatography.

The antioxidant activities against DPPH free radical of crude extracts using ethyl acetate and methanol from ink sac, muscles, and bones of 5 squid species (Uroteuthis chinensis, Uroteuthis sibogae, Uroteuthis duvaucelii, Sepia esculenta, Sepioteuthis lessoniana) collected in Khanh Hoa waters were investigated. These activities ranged from 4.21% (ethyl acetate extract from ink of U. chinensis) to 54.51% (methanol extract from muscle of S. esculenta.).

Mint has been used extensively in traditional medicines, spices, and herbal teas throughout the world. Isolation of flavonoids from Mentha spicata and quantification of these compounds in selected clones of Turkish mints landraces were achieved. M. spicata was dried in shade and then boiled in water. After filtration, the aqueous extract was partitioned with ethyl acetate.

New bis(isatins-thio/carbohydrazones) based on Schiff bases were prepared from terephthalaldehyde biscarbohydrazone and 5-substituted isatins in the presence of a drop of sulfuric acid under reflux in ethanol. Terephthalaldehyde bis(thio/carbohydrazone) was synthesized by the reaction of (thio)/carbohydrazide and terephthalaldehyde in the presence of a few drops of acetic acid under reflux in ethanol. The structures of these synthesized compounds were determined using IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

Chickpea is best nutritional crop in leguminous species, and biotic and abiotic stress affects the yield loss around 50 to 60 % .For preventing yield loss from this stress, it is necessary to developed high yield, qualitative variety of chickpea. In vitro methods are best technique for regeneration and development of transgenic variety of chickpea. In this investigation research to determine chickpea in vitro micropropagation was studied in genotypes; of chickpea JG62, JG63 JG315, VIJAY and Bhupdachana with explants immature cotyledonary and embryonic axis.

A phytochemical study of the ethyl acetate extract (EtOAc) of Styrax annamensis leaves resulted in the isolation and determination of six known compounds, including three nor-neolignans type 2-phenylbenzofurans egonol (1), egonoic acid (2) and (–)-machicendiol (3), two lignans styraxin (4) and vladinol D (5), and a triterpenoid pomolic acid (6). The chemical structures of these compounds were determined by NMR spectroscopies, and MS data. This is the first time to isolate these compounds from S. annamensis species.

In continuation of our search for bioactive compounds from Rourea species in Vietnam, four compounds including vomifoliol, boscialin, abscisic acid and p-coumaric acid were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the leaves of R. harmadiana. Their chemical structures were elucidated by different spectroscopic methods. This is the first study of the R. harmandiana. These compounds were firstly isolated from this species as well as from the genus Rourea.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antibacterial and anti-fungal activities of four species Sargassum namely: Sargassum polycystum, Sargassum oligocystum, Sargassum crassifolium and Sargassum cristaefolium collected along the coastal areas of Diora-Zinungan Sta. Ana Cagayan, Philippines. Extracts of powdered seaweeds were prepared using sequential extraction with different organic solvents in order to increasing the polarity (Ethanol, n-hexane, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate and aqueous).

7, 12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) is acting as immunosuppressor and it serves as a tumor initiator. Tumor promotion can be induced with treatments of 12-Otetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) in some models of two-stage carcinogenesis. This allows for a greatly accelerated rate of tumor growth, making many cancer studies possible. The DMBA damages many internal organs including liver, by inducing the production of reactive oxygen species, DNA-adduct formation and affecting the activities of phase I, II, antioxidant and serum enzymes.

In vitro inhibition of the five different aroma chemicals were studies against three seed borne fungal pathogen species in the concentration range of 500 and 1000 ppm. All aroma chemicals were found effective, the eugenol inhibited the maximum mycelial growth significantly which is followed by terpineol. The phenyl acetate showed least mycelial inhibition of the fungi. Over all in the present investigation, eugenol was found most effective aroma chemical against the species of Curvularia, Drechslera and Bipolaris.

Methylobacterium spp. are a group of bacteria known as pink-pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFMs) capable of growing on single carbon compounds such as formate, formaldehyde, and methanol as well as on a variety of multicarbon compounds having no carbon-carbon bonds. They are distributed ubiquitously in the plant phyllosphere and rhizosphere and have been isolated from many species of plants. Methylotrophs are known to play an important role in increasing crop yield and soil fertility.

Trichoderma species, a class of plant beneficial fungi, may provide opportunistic symbionts to induce plant tolerance to abiotic stresses. Here, we determined the possible mechanisms responsible for the indole acetic acid (IAA) and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate-deaminase (ACC-deaminase) producing strain of Trichoderma longibrachiatum T6 (TL-6) in promoting wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) growth and enhancing plant tolerance to NaCl stress.

Acetes is a good source of protein and is very low in fat and calories, making it a healthy food of choice for consumers but due to small in size it degrades faster by the action of microbes and enzymes. However, there is no information about the quality changes of Acetes during icing with reference to proximate composition, fatty acid profile, mineral profile and other biochemical changes.

Antibacterial activity of six different species of fungal extracts viz., Aspergillus ochraceous, Paecilomyces variotii, Schizophyllum sp., Epicoccum sp., Metarhizium sp., Aspergillus niger were evaluated against ten serotypes of Bacillus thuringiensis to develop new bioactive secondary metabolites from the microbial sources. Fungal crude extracts were isolated by ethyl acetate solvent extraction method and product yields varied from 0.150g to 0.538g. Thin Layer Chromatography was carried out for detecting the small molecule compounds present in the crude extracts.
