In this study, the objective was to employ experimental design in order to optimize the efficiency of diesel oil removal from water using activated carbon sourced from rambutan peel. A central composite design was utilized to investigate the impact of contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial oil concentration, and pH on both the removal efficiency and oil adsorption capacity across 30 different experimental designs.

The ZnO/activated carbon nanocomposites are a potential adsorbent for treating polluted water. The effect of the mass ratio of molten ZnCl2 and rice husks, pyrolysis temperature on the characteristics and methylene blue (MB) adsorption capacity were charaterized. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics of the organic dye MB on the prepared ZnO/activated carbon were also thoroughly investigated.

In this study, activated carbon prepared from Acacia crassicarpa bark was prepared and studied for the potential development of low-cost, carbon-based adsorbents that remove industrial dyes from aqueous solutions. Various spectroscopy techniques and surface analyses were used to characterize the adsorbents.

The new flotation system for separation of activated carbon powder (ACP) from aqueous solution by using poly γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) is proposed in this study. Firstly, γ-PGA was added as flotation agent (both collector agents of ACP and bubble agents). Air was bubbled into the solution, which generates the foam that carries the ACP adsorbed PGA from the solution to the surface.

The activation of carbon dioxide (CO2) by catalytic systems comprising a transition metal (Co, Cu,Ni) on an activated carbon (AC) support was investigated using a combination of different theoretical calculation methods: Monte Carlo simulation, DFT and DFT-D, molecular dynamics (MD), and a climbing image nudged elastic band (CI-NEB) method. The results obtained indicate that CO2 is easily adsorbed by AC or MAC (M: Cu, Co, Ni).

The study "A study on carbon nanotube titanium dioxide hybrids: experiment and calculation" report synthesis of TiO2/CNTs composite by simple grinding method and study improving their photocatalytic activity under visible light. The photocatalytic activities of samples were assessed by photodegradation of methylene blue (MB). We have investigated the geometry and electronic structure of small TiO2 clusters adsorbed on singlewall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) support using first-principles density functional calculations.

The adsorption of the tricyclic antidepressants amitriptyline and nortryptyline was studied. Activated carbon, diosmectite and nano-sized titanium dioxide were selected as adsorbent materials. After monitoring the effect of contact time on the amount adsorbed, it was determined that the adsorption kinetics follow a pseudo-second kinetic equation.

The adsorption equilibrium of water vapor on different adsorbent materials has been studied. Small grains of commercial activated carbon and alumina, with a diameter of d g = 1.5 × 10−3 m, were impregnated with a hygroscopic salt (calcium chloride) to improve the performance of these materials. The main characteristics of the new composite materials were obtained by adsorption/desorption of nitrogen at 77 K and salt distribution on the adsorbent surface was shown using scanning electron microscopy.

The synthesis and characterization of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid immobilized activated carbon cloth was performed in the present work. It was used for preconcentration-separation of lead(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II) at trace levels as an adsorbent. Factors including pH, concentration and volume of eluent, sample and eluent flow rates, sample volume, and effect of coexisting ions on the solid phase extraction of analytes were examined. The preconcentration factor was 50.

CO2 adsorption capacities of activated carbon-based adsorbents subjected to different treatments, such as HNO3 oxidation, air oxidation, alkali impregnation, and heat treatment under helium gas atmosphere, were determined by gravimetric analyses and reported previously by our group. In the current work, the experimental adsorption isotherms of these modified activated carbon samples were fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D-R) models.

Sugarcane bagasse as an agricultural/industrial biomass was converted into a low-cost activated carbon via an acid activation procedure under optimized conditions. Phosphoric acid was applied as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly chemical activator. The optimized activated carbon produced under temperature of 550°C and impregnation ratio of 1.5 showed a micromesoporous structure with specific surface area and pore volume of 972.5 m2/g and 0.43 cm3/g, respectively.

A granulated type of commercial activated carbon (GAC) with surface area of 828 m2/g was treated with a strong solution of sulfuric acid (98% wt.) at a temperature of 30°C. The physicochemical and porous properties and the surface chemistry of the sorbents were investigated and compared in detail. It was established that the lower temperatures of impregnation and the higher concentration of H2SO4 solution resulted in the introduction of higher percentages of sulfur-containing groups and smaller porosity loss.

In the present study, we successfully prepared two different electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based-activated carbon nanofiber (ACNF) composites by incorporation of well-distributed Fe2O3 and Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs). The influence of metal oxide on the structural, morphological, and textural properties of final composites was thoroughly investigated. The results showed that the morphological and textural properties could be easily tuned by changing the metal oxide NPs.

Low-cost activated carbon (AC) samples obtained from waste coffee grounds were used for CO2 and CH4 adsorption. ACs were prepared by chemical activation and carbonized at three different temperatures. AC carbonized at 800◦C showed a relatively high surface area (582.92 m2 g−1) and high adsorption capacities of 2.6 mmol g−1 and 1.1 mmol g−1 at 25◦C for CO2 and CH4, respectively. Adsorbent samples were prepared by loading of Fe3+ metal ions onto ACs and their adsorption capacities were compared with those of nonloaded ACs.
