Actual field capacity

In this study the performance and cost-economics were compared for maize seed. During the study it was found that the mean draft requirement measured during experiment was 384.17 N with an average power output of 0.158 kW/ h. The average speed of operation of the planter was found to be 1.46 km/h. The average seed to seed distance was 30 cm and average row to row distance is 45 cm. The depth of seed placement was 6 cm and actual seed rate observed was 13.2 kg/ha. The theoretical field capacity was 0.127 ha/hr

Soybean developing seed is susceptible to high temperature and humidity (HTH) stress in the field, resulting in vigor reduction. Actually, the HTH in the field during soybean seed growth and development would also stress the whole plant, especially on leaf and pod, which in turn affect seed growth and development as well as vigor formation through nutrient supply and protection.

Traditional type fertilizer broadcasters were with constant opening with gravity flow method which was showing high variation in discharge quantity of fertilizer between the rows and this lead to under and over dosage. A battery operated variable rate fertilizer broadcaster was developed and it consisting of storage tank, metering unit, spreading unit and variable rate controller unit was developed. To standardize the metering mechanism for the fertilizer applicator, a study was conducted on the existing fertilizer metering devices.

A weed is essentially any plant which grows where it is not required. A weed can be thought of as any plant growing in the wrong place at the wrong time and doing more harm than good. Weeds are the most severe and widespread biological constraint to crop production, and cause invisible damage till the crop is harvested. The composition and competition by weeds are dynamic and dependent on soil, climate, cropping and management factors. Weeds decrease the value of land, particularly perennial weeds, which tend to accumulate on long fallows; increase cost of cleaning.

In Leh district farming is becoming very costly due to scarce population, high cost of labor and lack of well equipped farm machinery. Thus a study was conducted to check the field performance of various tractor operated equipments under Ladakh condition. It was found that indigenous plow has lowest actual field capacity of 0.021 ha/hr. In addition, a comparative study was conducted between traditional method of sowing and tractor operated seed cum fertilizer drill at HMAARI, Leh, SUAST (K).
