Heart failure continues to be a leading cause of hospitalization worldwide, and acute heart failure (AHF) poses a significant risk of morbidity and mortality in the short term. Acute heart failure (AHF) is a clinical syndrome with different triggering factors and manifests either as new onset or as an acute decompensation of chronic HF.

Effective prediction and surveillance of communicable diseases are vital for public health management. This study leveraged machine learning algorithms to predict disease occurrences in the Province of Marinduque, focusing on Hand Foot Mouth Disease, Dengue, Typhoid, Influenza, Chikungunya, Rabies, Measles, Meningitis, Hepatitis, and Acute Bloody Diarrhea using data from 2015 to 2019.

Treatment of hepatitis C infection has evolved dramatically since 2011. Previous conventional therapy with interferon and ribavirin used to have a low sustained virological response rate of less than 40%. In the new directacting antiviral therapy era, a sustained virological response can be achieved in more than 90% of cases.

Macrophage activation syndrome is a rare disorder leading to unregulated immune activity manifesting with nonspecific constitutional symptoms, laboratory abnormalities, and multiorgan involvement. We report the case of a patient who presented with acute hepatitis secondary to macrophage activation syndrome diagnosed by liver biopsy and successfully treated with intravenous immune globulin, anakinra, and rituximab.

The incidence of acute liver failure from herpes simplex virus is rare. Acute liver failure can lead to complications and death. Thus, careful observation is crucial, even if the patient has shown some improvements.

Flood syndrome is caused by spontaneous rupture of an umbilical hernia in a patient with tense, long-standing ascites. It is a rare complication of hepatic cirrhosis and has a high mortality rate. Flood syndrome is so named because a rush of ascitic fluid often follows the spontaneous umbilical hernia rupture.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a serious complication of many drugs. Amongst recreational drugs, cocaine, amphetamines and ecstasy (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) have been known to cause ALF as a complication. However, the true effects and management on the liver of such cases have not been well reported and treatment of such conditions needs prompt action.

Chronic starvation and refeeding have been associated with liver injury (LI). We present a patient with anorexia nervosa who exhibited both phenomena of malnutrition-related LI. At presentation, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were elevated at 154 and 136 U/L, respectively, and rose rapidly to peaks of 750 and 638 U/L, respectively, as nutrition was introduced.

Liver involvement in adults with acute myeloid leukemia is uncommon. Most of the case reports describe acute liver failure or obstructive jaundice, while acute hepatitis is rarely mentioned. We report a patient with acute myeloid leukemia who presented with clinical, biochemical, and radiological signs of acute hepatitis that totally regressed after chemotherapy.

Hepatitis A virus infections are mostly asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, and generally this disease has a benign course and resolves spontaneously. However, intrahepatic and rarer extrahepatic manifestations can complicate typical cases of acute hepatitis. Pleural effusion is an extremely rare extrahepatic entity with 20 cases reported in literature.

Prompt diagnosis of metabolic disorders in a resource-limited country like Nepal is daunting. Acute intermittent porphyria is a rare but common hepatic porphyria mostly seen in females of the reproductive age group. As its incidence is quite uncommon, conjectures about porphyria diagnosis are often duped into a diagnostic conundrum.

Hepatitis B infection remains a global health problem, with progression to acute-chronic hepatitis, severe liver failure, and death making hepatitis B one of the most serious infections worldwide. The disease is most widely transmitted from an infected mother to her baby, after exposure to infected blood or body fluids or unsafe sexual contact.

Compared to conventional tidal volume ventilation, low tidal-volume ventilation reduces mortality in cased of acute respiratory distress syndrome. The aim of the present study is to determine whether low tidal-volume ventilation reduces the production of inflammatory mediators in the lungs and improves physiological status during hepatic surgery.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a major cause of acute hepatitis in humans worldwide and have high burden in the resource-limited countries. Better knowledge of the epidemiology of hepatitis in animals in Africa can help to understand the epidemiology among humans. The objective of this study was to summarize the prevalence of HEV infection and distribution of HEV genotypes among animals in Africa.

Identification of acute or recent hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections is important for detecting outbreaks and devising timely public health interventions for interruption of transmission. Epidemiological investigations and chemistry-based laboratory tests are 2 main approaches that are available for identification of acute HCV infection. However, owing to complexity, both approaches are not efficient.

Nintedanib is effective for treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), but some patients may exhibit a suboptimal response and develop on-treatment acute exacerbation (AE-IPF), hepatic injury, or mortality. It remains unclear which patients are at risk for these adverse outcomes.
