Encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) infection can cause reproductive failure in sows and acute myocarditis and sudden death in piglets. It has caused huge economic losses to the global pig industry and that is why it is necessary to develop effective new treatment compounds.

Influenza B virus infection is generally considered to be mild and is rarely associated pulmonary cardiovascular involvement in adults. However fatal complications may occur. Case presentation: A 43-year-old previously healthy Taiwanese male came to our emergency department due to high fever, chills, general malaise and myalgia for about 4 days.

Among the viruses, infection with canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2) was considered as highly contagious and causes acute haemorrhagic gastroenteritis and myocarditis in dogs. In the present study, faecal samples from fourteen pups affected with canine parvoviral enteritis were subjected to detailed bacteriological examination.

Dengue fever is an acute febrile infectious disease, caused by any of four serotypes. Severe dengue infections may give rise to many complications such as liver failure, disseminated intravascular coagulation, encephalopathy, myocarditis, acute renal failure and haemolytic uraemic syndrome. ST segment and T wave changes in the electrocardiogram together with low ejection fraction and global hypokinesia on radionuclide ventriculography have been found. Hence, this study was intended to assess the cardiac manifestations in dengue fever patients.

We report the clinical presentation of a 10 month-old infant who succumbed with acute myocarditis and fulminant hepatic failure associated with a virologically confirmed human influenza A, H1N1 (2009) virus infection. To date, this is the first pediatric patient presenting with this fatal combination of complications during the current H1N1 pandemic. Therefore, we recommend meticulous assessment and follow up of the cardiac status, liver enzymes and coagulation profile in all pediatric patients with severe H1N1 influenza infection.

Myocarditis is a clinical syndrome characterized by inflammation of myocardium. It can be produced by a myriad of etiologies including infectious, autoimmune, myocardial toxins, hypersensitivity reactions and physical agents. Virtually any infectious agent can produce myocardial inflammation and injury. Human myocarditis is most frequently caused by viral infection. Ongoing viral infection, myocardial destruction, and adverse remodeling can lead to persistent ventricular dysfunction and dilated cardiomyopathy.

Cardiac Manifestations Although heart murmurs are usually indicative of the predisposing cardiac pathology rather than of endocarditis, valvular damage and ruptured chordae may result in new regurgitant murmurs. In acute endocarditis involving a normal valve, murmurs are heard on presentation in only 30–45% of patients but ultimately are detected in 85%. Congestive heart failure develops in 30–40% of patients; it is usually a consequence of valvular dysfunction but occasionally is due to endocarditis-associated myocarditis or an intracardiac fistula.
