Acute toxicity

This study aimed to assess the acute and subchronic toxicity of Pyridostigmine bromide 90 mg extended-release tablets in experimental animals. Subjects and methods: Pyridostigmine bromide 90 mg extended-release tablets were prepared complying in-house specifications. Acute oral toxicity (LD50) was determined in white mice using the Litchfield-Wilcoxon method. Subchronic toxicity was assessed in rabbits following OECD guidelines.

To evaluate the acute toxicity and semi-chronic toxicity of the remedy “Bo phe dinh suyen QY” on experimental animals. The flesh fly Sarcophaga ruficornis is a pest of veterinary importance as it affects various animals reared for livestock including cows, buffaloes, sheep, and goats causing myiasis, which results in huge economic loss to the livestock owners. Various attempts have been made to control this fly using different chemical formulations. Barium carbonate is highly toxic compound upon acute and chronic exposures. Barium compounds have been found to have a toxic effect on different animal models.

Glipizide is a second generation of sulfonylurea with promising hypoglycemic activity. It acts by stimulating the release of insulin from β-cells of pancreas. Glipizide is absorbed rapidly, uniformly with good mean oral bioavailability. It offers several advantages such as swift and short action, high potency and also does not accumulate in plasma on repeated oral administration. In this paper we report the acute and subacute toxicity of glipizide on BALB/c albino mice. The results showed the safety of our synthesized product.

Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) deficiency results in decreased retinol utilization, but it is unclear what physio-logical roles the several known ADHs play in retinoid signaling. Here, Adh1, Adh3,andAdh4null mutant mice have been examined following acute and chronic vitamin A excess. Following an acute dose of retinol (50 mgÆkg )1 ), metabolism of retinol to retinoic acid in liver was reduced 10-fold inAdh1mutants and 3.8-fold inAdh3mutants, but was not significantly reduced inAdh4mutants.
