  • Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by neuronal loss and astrocytosis in the cerebral cortex. However, the specific effects that pathological mutations and coding variants associated with AD have on the cellular composition of the brain are often ignored.

  • Cerebral amyloidosis, neuroinflammation, and tauopathy are key features of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but interactions among these features remain poorly understood. Our previous multiscale molecular network models of AD revealed TYROBP as a key driver of an immune- and microglia-specific network that was robustly associated with AD pathophysiology.

  • TREM2 is a transmembrane receptor expressed by myeloid cells and acts to regulate their immune response. TREM2 governs the response of microglia to amyloid and tau pathologies in the Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brain. TREM2 is also present in a soluble form (sTREM2), and its CSF levels fuctuate as a function of AD progression.

  • There is increasing interest in whether anesthetic agents affect the risk or progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). To mitigate many of the methodological issues encountered in human retrospective cohort studies we have used a transgenic model of AD to investigate the effect of propofol on AD pathology.

  • Cerebrovascular dysfunction plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD): the most common cause of dementia in the elderly. The involvement of neurovasculature disorders in the progression of AD is now increasingly appreciated, but whether they represent initial factors or late-stage pathological changes during the disease is unclear. Using senescence-accelerated OXYS rats, which simulate key characteristics of sporadic AD, we evaluated contributions of cerebrovascular alterations to the disease development.

  • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, lethal disease of which the etiology is still not fully understood. Current treatment comprises two FDA-approved drugs that can slow down yet not stop or reverse the disease. As IPF pathology is associated with an altered redox balance, adding a redox modulating component to current therapy might exert beneficial effects.

  • There are physiological changes in pathologies such as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) within the lower vestibuloacoustic system, which may be potentially useful when used as neurodegeneration features. We hypothesize two Electrovestibulography feature types (Field Potential (FP) shape and the Firing pattern of detected FP’s) may have utility as Neurodegeneration features.

  • Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome and acetabular dysplasia (AD) are common pathologies that lead to pain in the young adult hip. Nocturnal pain in these patients is often reported, yet little is known regarding the effect of these hip pathologies on overall sleep quality.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the fungi toxic effect of palmarosa essential oil (Cymbopogon martinii) on mycelial growth of Fusarium verticillioides in vitro and treatment of corn seeds. For the in vitro experiment the essential oil was added to the culture medium and poured into Petri dishes, using seven different oil concentrations (0.0125, 0.025, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2%), 0.0% was the negative control, and we used Thiram as a positive control. Discs of culture medium with fungal mycelium were inoculated into the center of the plates and incubated for seven days at 27 ± 2°C.

  • The newer meta-analyses did not add significantly to the views expressed in the previous Type 2 diabetes guideline. The findings of the ROSSO study44 and the data from the large Kaiser Permanente cohorts43 added considerable confidence to the view that SMBG was an integral part of effective patient education packages and enabled the effective use of many other therapies and lifestyle interventions. The view in the previous guideline that self-monitoring of plasma glucose is not a stand-alone intervention was endorsed....

  • As a salesperson, you could take your product/service on the road, visit one prospect at a time, and engage in an in- person meeting with each prospect. Although this sales method is highly effective, it’s also time-consuming and costly. Another alternative is to advertise or engage in traditional marketing activities so your prospects and potential customers come to you. This, too, can be a highly effective, but costly, endeavor, although, it’s always nice to run a targeted ad and have prequalified prospects knocking at your door or calling you on the phone....

  • The indications for these surgical procedures were: recurrent hemoptysis (24 cases), massive hemoptysis (4 cases), multi drug resistant TB (4 cases), bronchiectasis and recurrent infection (2 cases), and right bronchial stenosis (1 case). In two of the patients the indication for surgery was intra-bronchial carcinoid tumour. Lymph node biopsies obtained during the surgery showed pathological changes of TB.

  • are there cancer cells in your lymph channels or blood vessels? The breast has a network of lymph channels and blood vessels that drain fluid and blood from your breast tissue back into your body’s circulation. These pathways remove used blood and waste products. There is an increased risk of cancer coming back when cancer cells are found in the fluid channels of the breast. In these cases, your doctor may customize your treatment to reduce this risk. If lymphatic or blood vessel (vascular) invasion is found, your pathology report will say present.

  • The World Health Organization, for example, first developed the Expanded Programme on Immunization and subsequently the Programme for the Control of Diarrhoeal Diseases. UNICEF chose four specific interventions on which to focus: growth monitoring, oral rehydration therapy, breast- feeding promotion, and immunization, known by the acronym GOBI. It later added three more (food, family planning, and female education).

  • In 1993 I was at SFI directing the economics program, and working on a small scale agent-based financial market of my own. My interest was directed at many of the empirical issues I was dealing with. Most of which were related to understanding the joint dynamics of prices and trading volume. In absence of some kind of theoretical framework these time series exercises were getting increasingly difficult. At this time I was added to the team, and along with Arthur and Palmer we began some extensive modifications to the SFI market.

  • In the century since the neuronal inclusions [neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs); Fig. 1] and extracellular protein aggregates (Aft plaques; Fig. 1) that form the pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD) were described, our knowledge of all aspects of AD has grown markedly. AD is uniformly progressive and ultimately results in debilitating cognitive impairment. In the early stages, the impairment may only be apparent on neuropsychological testing; however, by end stage, few functions above the automatic remain unaffected (Forstl and Kurz, 1999)....

  • Islet transplantation provides a promising cure for Type 1 diabetes; however it is limited by a shortage of pancreas donors. Bone marrow-derived multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) offer renewable cells for generating insulin-producing cells (IPCs). Methods: We used a four-stage differentiation protocol, containing neuronal differentiation and IPC-conversion stages, and combined with pellet suspension culture to induce IPC differentiation.
