  • In this study, the factors related to the veneer material and adhesive properties were fixed; however, working conditions and process parameters (impregnation, pre-drying, curing, gluing, hot press) could affect the performance of plywood. Therefore, the objective of this work is to investigate the influence of two different processes (with and without curing before gluing) on bonding quality of the treated beech plywood.

  • Wool has disulphide bonds containing-hydrophobic external keratin layers, which act as a barrier for the modification through coating with hydrophilic materials. For that reason, in this work, to ensure a dense and homogenous conductive polymer coating onto the wool, the fabrics were subjected to the reduction process in the aqueous alkaline medium containing agents that can attack these disulphide bonds. Then, one of the polyaniline derivatives, poly(mtoluidine) (PMT), was coated onto wool by in situ polymerization of m-toluidine sulphate using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the influence of surface roughness and adhesive system on the repair strength of silorane-based resin composite. Twenty-four substrate discs from silorane-based Filtek P90 were made and stored for 24 h. Half of the discs were roughened against 320 grit SiC paper while the other half was polished against 4000 grit SiC paper.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the effects of three sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)-endodontic irrigation procedures used alone or in combinations with two intermediate dressing materials on bond strengths of two adhesive composite systems to coronal dentin. Surfaces were treated with NaOCl or NaOCl–Glyde-File-Prep (H2O2 and EDTA) with or without chlorhexidine (CHX) as a final rinse. Intermediate dressing materials of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and sodium perborate (SP) were combined with surface treatments. Surface treatment groups (n = 10/group) included (1) distilled water (control), (2) 5.

  • The reparability of dual-cured resin composite core buildup materials using a light-cured one following one week or three months storage, prior to repair was evaluated. Two different dual-cured resin composites; Cosmecore DC automix and Clearfil DC automix core buildup materials and a light-cured nanofilled resin composite; Filtek Z350 XT were used. Substrate specimens were prepared (n = 12/each substrate material) and stored in artificial saliva at 37 C either for one week or three months.

  • Adhesion mechanisms and interfacial strengths of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) modified mortar and chemically active tiles with five different silane coupling agents were studied using the Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) technique and mechanical testing. The results revealed that small and hydrophilic silane functionalities and isocyanate groups improved interfacial strength between tiles and modified mortar while the silane bearing hydrophobic functional group decreased adhesion resistance.

  • Polymer cement mortar (PCM) is a widely used cementitious repairing material due to its considerable adhesive property with concrete. However, the polymers are sensitive to elevated temperatures. The behaviours of polymers and PCM at elevated temperatures (e.g., 60 °C) for short, moderate duration and cyclic conditions remain unknown and need to be explored. This work was aimed at studying the mechanical performance of PCM and PCM-concrete composites under the aforementioned exposure conditions.

  • Adhesives have played and will continue to play an important role in the efficient utilization of wood resources. Early Egyptians used adhesives to attach rare veneers to wood furniture. Today, adhesives play a vital role in allowing almost all types and sizes of wood to be converted to functional products. For centuries, wood was bonded using biobased adhesives. In the 20th century, synthetic adhesives gradually took over because they were typically more effective and cost less.

  • A series of commercially manufactured medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels were exposed to a post-manufacture heat-treatment at various temperatures and durations using a hot press and just enough pressure to ensure firm contact between the panel and the press platens. Postmanufacture heat-treatment improved surface roughness of the exterior MDF panels. Panels treated at 225C for 30 min had the smoothest surface while the roughest surface was found for the control panels.
