In this paper, we propose an extended version of UMR, called UMR2, that overcomes these limitations and adopts a worker selection policy that aims at minimizing the makespan. We, theoretically and experimentally, show that UMR2 is superior to UMR, specifically in a WAN computing platform such as the Cloud environments.

With the growth of the information technology industry, the literature exploring cloud computing, in particular, SaaS adoption has been developing considerably over the last few years. It is time to take stock of SaaS adoption’s determinant factors and its application to more specific contexts. This study endeavored to investigate the influence of three organizational factors (organizational size, organizational readiness, and top management support) to SaaS adoption in Vietnamese enterprises across sectors.

Cloud computing is a pattern for delivering ubiquitous and on demand computing resources based on pay-as-you-use financial model. Typically, cloud providers advertise cloud service descriptions in various formats on the Internet. On the other hand, cloud consumers use available search engines (Google and Yahoo) to explore cloud service descriptions and find the adequate service. Unfortunately, general purpose search engines are not designed to provide a small and complete set of results, which makes the process a big challenge.

Public corporations in East Asia typically have low levels of transparency and disclosure quality. Some commentators and policy advisors believe that a closer adherence to international disclosure rules and the adoption of international accounting standards are essential for improving corporate transparency in the region (World Bank, 1998). Despite efforts to impose stricter reporting rules and standards, the general perception is that corporate transparency has been declining (Asian Wall Street Journal, November 24, 1999).

The contribution to GDP growth can be hardly differentiated between countries and sectors, therefore we simply summarize our average estimates to the European countries. As shown in Table 1, the range is between 0.05% in the short run under slow adoption and 0.3% in the medium run under fast adoption of cloud comput- ing.

A key factor for the impact of cloud computing is the size of fixed cost savings. The business literature emphasizes large savings. Dubey and Wagle (2007) conjec- ture large reductions in the cost of ownership for typical business services. 19 Carr (2003) suggests that about half of capital expenditure of modern firms is ICT re- lated. While this maybe true in a number of sectors and for advanced companies, we prefer to adopt a more conservative assumption for our macroeconomic investi- gation.

Moreover, we will present estimates for different scenarios – of slow and rapid adoption of the new technology – that should cover the range of possible out- comes with a good approximation. Third and last, our approach neglects some of the positive effects exerted by the introduction of cloud computing, mainly the cre- ation of new network effects and the positive externalities due to energy savings. Their consideration would be subject to excessive uncertainty, but because of this we can look at our estimates of the impact of cloud computing on the economy as conservative estimates.

Our analysis will emphasize a mechanism of propagation of the effects of cloud computing which depends on the endogenous market structures. Through business creation, the adoption of cloud computing is going to enhance competition in each sector and to increase production and lower mark ups. This will have a positive im- pact on consumption so as to contribute to the recovery of the EU economy. Most of all, part of these effects are going to be positively related to the speed of adop- tion of the new technology.

This book focuses on the development of cloud-native applications. A cloud-native ap plication is architected to take advantage of specific engineering practices that have proven successful in some of the world’s largest and most successful web properties. Many of these practices are unconventional, yet the need for unprecedented scalability and efficiency inspired development and drove adoption in the relatively small number of companies that truly needed them. After an approach has been adopted successfully enough times, it becomes a pattern.
