  • Adoption is decision to make full use of new ideas as the best course of action available. The term adoption, in this study is used to denote use of improved maize cultivation practices by farmers. Maize production has shown a tremendous increase in the country. The growth rate of production of maize since last five years is higher in India than that of maize in USA and China. The productivity of maize with more than 4 t/ha in Rabi season is catching up with global average productivity of maize. India is now major maize producer after USA, China, Brazil and Argentina.

  • The present study was undertaken to assess and compare the knowledge of improved maize production and post harvest technologies among farmers and farm women and constraints faced by the farm families in adoption of maize production technologies of maize. The study was conducted in two purposively selected districts viz. Udaipur and Chittorgarh of Agro-climatic zone IV A of Rajasthan. Two panchayat samities from each district were selected purposively and three villages from each panchayat samiti were selected on random basis.

  • The crop productivity has been reached to the stagnation and there is no increase in the yield even at higher doses of fertilizers. The need of pacing up with the increase food demand with crop production is urgent for countries like India. To achieve this more focus is needed over the transition zone production system. In Bangalore north and south transact are at dynamic state in terms of production system and can be categorised as rural, urban and transition zone.

  • What have been the impacts of the GGDP-generated maize technologies? In the absence of reliable baseline data, it was not possible to calculate quantitative measures of project impact. Based on farmers’ qualitative judgments, however, it is clear that adoption of the GGDP-generated technologies has been associated with significant farm-level productivity gains (measured in terms of maize yields) and noticeable increases in the income earned from sales of maize. Impacts on the nutritional status of rural households, however, appear to have been less pronounced.

  • In addition to documenting the uptake and diffusion of the three GGDP-generated maize technologies, this case study provides valuable insights about the many factors that can affect the adoption of agricultural innovations in general. The survey results show that adoption of improved production technology is directly influenced by three sets of factors: (1) characteristics of the technology (e.g., complexity, profitability, riskiness, divisibility, compatibility with other technologies); (2) characteristics of the farming environment (e.g.

  • Data on the adoption of three GGDP-generated maize technologies—modern varieties (MVs), fertilizer recommendations, and plant configuration recommendations—were collected through a national survey of maize growers conducted between November 1997 and March 1998. A three-stage, clustered, randomized procedure was used to select a representative sample of 420 maize farmers.

  • In India, rice, wheat and maize yields per hectare of land have increased three to four fold between 1950 and 2010, mainly due to the adoption of improved agronomic practices. Egg production now ranges between 310–320 per annum per bird. Similarly, feed conversion efficiency in broilers is also at par with developed nations and Indian poultry farmers are now more conscious of the need to increase profits by cutting costs and improving productivity. Balancing of nutrients in poultry rations along with improved mineral supplementation has led to this improved productivity.
