Adoption of scientific dairy practices

A study was conducted at the Banaras Hindu University Dairy Farm to estimate the effects of feeding management practices on rearing of animals and milk production in terms of economic analysis. The data pertaining to the feeds and feeding systems being followed and their input costs were collected from the records maintained for all the animals at the dairy farm. The lactation yield of cows and buffaloes has been worked out to 996 and 1150 Litres, respectively. The cost of daily feeding per head and per Litre of milk has been estimated to Rs. 60.26 and Rs. 10.80, respectively.

Traditional extension methods of communication system have numerous limitations in adoption of technologies. It involves a lot of time and efforts to deliver the message. The quality of extension messages gets heavily distorted and eroded when it ultimately reaches the end users. Most of technical staff within the state departments of animal husbandry lacks the capacity to effectively communicate with both the research system and the stakeholder group.

The present investigation was carried out at Gadchiroli Tahsil of Gadchiroli Dist. during the year 2016–17 under sanctioned project by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi entitled as “Hope generation in livestock owners of tribal area under two blocks of Gadchiroli district through training and demonstration of scientific livestock management practices” to the Section of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science, College of Agriculture, Nagpur.
