Aerobic tank

In this study, we synthesized magnetic activated carbon (MAC) derived from Litsea glutinosa seeds, which was applied to eliminate methylene blue and nickel ions in the aeration tank of the biological treatment system. Structural characteristics and adsorption properties of MAC were studied. The obtained results revealed that the removal efficiency of these pollutants significantly improved as a combination of MAC and activated sludge, especially in the case of nickel ions removal.

A constructed wetland with the aerobic tank and anaerobic/anoxic tank connected in series was employed to treat highly polluted river water. The aerobic tank was kept being aerobic with the continuous supply of air through the natural draft system.

Remedial strategies for petroleum UST sites that include a combination of active source zone treatment with enhanced natural attenuation outside the contaminant plume core may consider chemical oxidation technologies. Many chemical oxidation techniques also provide residual dissolved oxygen that is used by aerobic microorganisms to biodegrade contaminants. In addition, these technologies may also oxidize reduced electron acceptors (e.g., nitrogen to nitrate, sulfides to sulfate), which are then used by anaerobic microorganisms to biodegrade contaminants.
