The main others were cultivation environment pollution, the inferior seeds, cultivation techniques and post-harvest management. The solutions to these challenges are to make surrounding farmland cleaned, to expand the certified seeds’ supply and the advanced new farming technology, to modernize facilities for drying, storage and sort of agro-products, and to improve logistics capacity.

In the last decade, Laos’agriculture has been commercialized faster and has gained given achievements. From a self-sufficiently agricultural country, Laos’has become one of the net exporters of agricultural products. However, commercial agriculture in the nation is still less competive due to poor irrigation and trasportation systems; small-scale production, limited agro- processing, week linkages bettween stakeholders within value chains, etc.

Indian food industry is making an important mark in the global food arena as a large producer and exporter of agro food products. At present small players dominate the Indian food processing industry. The industry needs larger companies, which have financial muscle for establishing a large market network and also to invest in technology.

Agro industries like banana processing industries result in large amount of waste generation and they are usually dumped causing serious environmental pollution. Since banana wastes are putrid organic wastes, they are ideal for anaerobic digestion. Hence utilizing these wastes for biogas production is a sustainable way of deriving energy from waste so that the two major concerns, energy demand and environmental protection is achieved. The paper describes the analysis of the physico-chemical characteristics of banana wastes viz. banana peel, pseudo stem and fruit bunch stem.

Agro-land Suitability is a process of evaluation of agriculture land, which measures the degree of appropriateness of agricultural land for the use of particular crop that can best support that crop to be grown and maximise the yield. The aim of this study was to find the suitable land for rice so that yield of rice get maximise and fulfill the demand of growing population. The study was carried in Bhal region of Gujarat, where agriculture is preferred as mainstay but production get fluctuated due to improper selection of cultivated crop.

Oil rich effluents are always a menance for many industries in the process of effluent treatment. The process usually requires more complex methods to resolve the issue to reach to disposable effluent standards. Enzymatic degradation was proved to be promising for the efficient treatment of oil rich effluents. Among the hydrolytic enzymes, lipases are the second most widely-used enzymes in industrial applications. A potential lipolytic fungus obtained from a marine soil sample exposed to oil spillage was identified as Aspergillus japonicus MF-1.

A simple method for transient expression of reporter gene in Brinjal leaves through agroinfiltration
Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) is one of the most important vegetable crops in India. In spite of the docility of brinjal towards genetic transformation through Agrobacterium, development of stable transgenic lines in brinjal is a cost, labour as well as time consuming process. On the other hand, the agro infiltration process has been optimized in different crops for the rapid analysis of transgene through transient expression. The process has also gained importance in synthetic biological applications for rapid production of therapeutic biomolecules in plants.

2,3-Butanediol (2,3-BD) is one of the promising bulk chemicals due to its extensive industrial application. We need to exploit the innate potential of its microbial producers which also possess delignification and saccharification abilities to facilitate the use of renewable and cheaper agro-residues as raw materials for fermentation. Strains of Lactic acid bacteria, Paenibacillus and Clostridium were tested for production of 2,3-BD by high through put determination of a pathway intermediate acetoin by Vogues Proskauer test.

Jaggery is the sugarcane based traditional Indian sweetener. Jaggery is among major agro processing industries in India. At present, 61.4 MT of jaggery is being produced from total sugarcane produced in the country, which is known as most nutritious agent among all sweeteners. Value addition to solid jaggery by inclusion of nutritive substances through puffed rice, gram, sesame and various kinds of nuts (cashew, almond), vitamins, iron, and taste enhancers like chocolate powder will increase demand for this kind of jaggery.

Bacillus subtilis has been widely used to produce hydrolytic enzymes for various industrial applications. In this study, solid state fermentation was carried out using various agro- industrial wastes for the production of alpha amylase using B. subtilis. Among the tested agro-residues, wheat bran supported more enzyme production. The process parameters elucidated were type of substrate, incubation time, pH, moisture content of the medium, carbon source and nitrogen source.

It was found that growth performance of agro-processing industries in Karnataka was unsatisfactory when compared with its other states. It is found that 48 per cent of the household expenditure in India is on food items and the demand for processed/convenience food is constantly increasing. With relatively cheaper labour, low cost of production, base for domestic and export markets could be set up. Processed products like packed polished wheat (atta) has widened the market, attracting multinationals like HALL and Pilsbury (a joint venture with Godrej).
