Ebook "Alien introgression in wheat: Cytogenetics, molecular biology, and genomics" provides an overview of the latest advancements in the field of alien introgression in wheat. The discovery and wide application of molecular genetic techniques including molecular markers, in situ hybridization, and genomics has led to a surge in interspecific and intergeneric hybridization in recent decades. The work begins with the taxonomy of cereals, especially of those species which are potential gene sources for wheat improvement.

The biodiversity of Ba Vi National Park has been faced with some passive impacts, one of them is alien species, that habitats for the native species is narrowed by increasing of invasive population expanding, it is necessary to conducted a research on the impacts of the invasive plants there and then giving the basis for better management of the national park.

The tertiary gene pool of bread wheat, to which Leymus racemosus belongs, has remained underutilized due to the current limited genomic resources of the species that constitute it. Continuous enrichment of public databases with useful information regarding these species is, therefore, needed to provide insights on their genome structures and aid successful utilization of their genes to develop improved wheat cultivars for effective management of environmental stresses.

The observation that many alien species become invasive despite low genetic diversity has long been considered the ‘genetic paradox’ in invasion biology. This paradox is often resolved through the temporal buildup genetic diversity through multiple introduction events.

In this study, tropical oithonid copepod Dioithona oculata was recorded for the first time in the Mediterranean Sea. This species is distinguished easily by its large ocular lenses and by the number of setae on the endopod of the maxillule. The study was conducted seasonally in the coastal area of İskenderun Bay between April 2013 and December 2016. D. oculata was first observed in October 2013 in the study area (Station 4; 3.1 ind. m–3); after this period, this species became an important contributor to zooplankton assemblages in October with the highest level seen in 2016 (Station 4, 834.

Here we present a discovery of a new fish from the family Gobiidae in Lake Prespa, which is known as a European hotspot for biodiversity and endemism. This is the first detection of a fish species from this family, not only regarding this lake but also in the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia in general. The close examination of the recorded specimens revealed the presence of perianal organ surrounding the anus. This unique organ and various other observed morphometric and phenotypic characteristics point out to the genus Economidichthys.

The Harlequin Ladybird, Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773), is native to Eastern Asia but it has been introduced to many countries in Africa, America, and Eurasia. In Turkey, H. axyridis is one of the most fast-spreading invasive alien species. Since the collection of the first specimens in 2010, H. axyridis spread almost all over the country. The species spreads fast in Turkey according to the new records, obtained originally from the field studies and the citizen science data.

In this study, Trachemys scripta is recorded as invasive alien species from the area. In terms of herpetological distribution, mostly recorded species were found in the evergreen forest habitat (6 species of amphibians and 7 species of reptiles). Additionally, the largest number of species were recorded in March 2019 (12 amphibian species and 4 reptile species).

Urdbean has narrow genetic base due to common ancestry of various superior genotypes, poor plant type and genetic vulnerability to biotic and abiotic stresses. The underutilized related specie, V. umbellata (ricebean), nutritive and resistant to most of the fungal pathogens, is speculated to be potential donor. Therefore, V. mungo and V. umbellata were crossed with a view to introgress alien genes. On inter-specific hybridization, the presence of pre-fertilization barriers and post-fertilization barriers were observed. As, hybrids exhibited reduced germination and sterility.

The study aimed to determine status and distribution pattern of wetland birds in Chitwan National Park. Study area was divided into four sectors viz; Sunachari to Sauraha, Sauraha to Kasara, Kasara to Rapti/Narayani confluence, and Rapti/Narayani confluence to Tribeni. The total number of wetland birds recorded in the study area was 36 species. Out of them, 15 were winter migratory birds belonging to 5 families, and 21 were residents belonging to 9 families.
