The main objective of this work is to assess the impact of prolonged wastewater irrigation on soil indicators in Bahr Elbaqar area. Moreover, the specific objectives are to distinguish a minimum dataset (MDS) of soil quality attributes and to compare the measurements of soil quality index using the total data set (TDS) and minimum data set (MDS) methods to improve the soil practices depending on soil quality monitoring.

The purpose of this study was to apply the modified Kostiakov method to determine the soil infiltration rate and permeated water amount of Thuong River alluvial soil for orange plantations in Lang Giang district, Bac Giang province, Vietnam. The soil particle size ranged from 0.02 to 2.00mm mainly found in the surface horizon (>77.7%). The soil was slightly acidic in the surface horizon, and highly acidic in the subsurface horizons (pHKCl from 3.42 to 4.79). The organic matter content of the surface horizon was mederate, while it was very low in the other horizons.

The impact of Improved agricultural practice (IAP) with emphasis on soil analysis based organic manure and chemical fertilizer application, replacement of 25% chemical fertilizer with Bio-fertilizers and Integrated Pest Management, was studied for 3 successive years in 5 fields in Ricelentil – Okra cropping system in Gangetic Alluvial zones of West Bengal, India. IAP was seen to have significant beneficial effects on elevating soil organic carbon content and increase soil pH towards normality.

The study revealed that the guava + banana and guava + eggplant systems were proved to be the most significant intercropping system by improving physio-chemical properties like bulk density, water holding capacity, SOC, available NPK of the soil. The maximum system equivalent yield and economic return were obtained from the same system. Thus the guava + banana intercropping system is not only the best for restoring soil fertility but also obtaining the maximum economic return for guava growers of West Bengal.

The present investigation was conducted to study the effect of sewage sludge and cadmium on growth and quality features of marigold (Tagetes erecta L.). The experiment was conducted in Factorial Complete Randomized Design. The treatments consisted of four doses of sewage sludge (0, 5, 10 and 15 g kg -1 ) in combination with three doses of cadmium (0, 20 and 40 mg kg-1 ) taking three replications. The treatments were studied in three types of soils Alluvial, Red and Black soil.

A total number of 10 rhizosperic bacteria were isolated from root environment of some healthy plants of a drastic diseased field with massive blighted symptoms of Trichosanthes dioica of Akilpur of Hooghly district, West Bengal (22.94º E 88.12º N) where soil is alluvial in nature. Among the isolates, one strain TR9 showed remarkable plant growth promoting activity. Cell free culture filtrate of TR9 produced clear zones of inhibition (diameter ranging from 1.67cm to 2.67cm) against different plant pathogenic fungi viz.

The present investigation was carried out at the Vegetable Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh (India) during Rabi of the year 2009 and 2010 on alluvial soil to assess the effect of Pseudomonas fluorescens and humic acid in combination with three different levels of mineral fertilizer fertilizers on microbial dynemics in alluvium soil. All inoculated treatments in both years of experiment gave significantly greater microbial population and enzymetic activities compared to control at harvest of cabbage crop.

A field study was carried out on Alluvial soils of Varanasi to analyse the short term impacts of replacing mineral by organic fertilizers on the physico-chemical properties and enzyme activities relevant for soil fertility and crop production. Three types of fertilization regimes were tested viz., no fertilizer, conventional as 100% RDF by inorganic fertilizer and combined integrated fertilizer in which 70% RDF with 30% of the nitrogen were supplied by either FYM or pressmud or vermicompost or combination of these two or all.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season 2015 in alluvial soil at farmer field, in village Loharapur, Varanasi, to study the soil microbial biomass, dynamics and selected enzyme activities as influenced by farm yard manure and inorganic fertilizer. The soil microbial biomass carbon; nitrogen and phosphorous was improved significantly with the different treatments. Highest soil biomass carbons, nitrogen, phosphorous were recorded with the combined application of inorganic nutrients and farm yard manure (T7) over the remaining other treatments.

Potassium fertilization is often ignored in cereal-based cropping systems assuming sufficient K reserves in the alluvial soils of north-western India. However, the responses to K have now widely reported due to continuous mining and little additions through external sources. Little known on the effects of integrated K management on soil biological properties and yield performance of corn grown in sequence with wheat.
