The free radical scavenging activity (FRSA) of tomato fruits coated with phytochemical extracts stored under ambient condition and the toxicity of the phytochemical coatings was also evaluated.

In this study, two methods including a common method using high concentration of alkali solution and a mild extraction method at ambient conditions were used to extract cellulose from bamboo. The results showed that two methods affected the initial state of the cellulose.

Its presence not only promotes hydrolytic cleavage of cellulose, but also causes acetylation of the cellulosic material to very small degree. The elastic modulus of the body-centered cubic (BCC) films is studied based on the moment method. For Fe, Ta, and W films a clear elastic modulus dependence of the thickness at ambient conditions and under temperatures up to 2000 K. The obtained results of the values of elastic modulus metallic films are smaller than the corresponding values of bulk material.

(CH3)3Al (TMA) has been employed for preparation of various thin films. It is also known to be hypergolic in the air. To unveil the hypergolic phenomenon, the mechanism for the reaction of TMA with O2 and/or H2O molecules is studied using computational quantum methods. Our results show that TMA reacts with water much faster than with O2, and water is not an efficient catalyst to help O2 reacting with TMA. The reactions of TMA with water and oxygen molecules can undergo subsequent ones in the air.

The lasing thresholds of microsphere biolasers fabricated at 25 °C and 60 °C are similar. Furthermore, lasing operation under continuous pumping and lasing stability against storing time are also investigated. A typical 42 µm microsphere can still lase upon 2×104 excitation pulses. Lasers can work well after being stored for 12 weeks under ambient conditions.

The catalytic activity of 1,3,5-triazine-pentaethylenehexamine (TAPEHA) polymer-supported Pd nanoparticles was investigated in the reduction of nitro arenes to the corresponding amines by NaBH4 or N2H4.HO. Optimized reaction conditions for both systems were successfully tested on 20 nitroarenes with different characteristics. Considerably high yields (80%–98% in NaBH4 and 85%–98% in N2H4) were obtained in a short time and at ambient temperature.

This work numerically studies the evaporation characteristics of 6 typical gas turbine fuels (JP-4, JP-5, JP-7, RT, Jet A-1, and TS-1, respectively). In this work, the influence of ambient temperature and liquid properties on the droplet lifetime is examined. At the same initial conditions (e.g. fuel temperature Ts0 = 300 K, droplet diameter D0 = 1 mm and atmospheric pressure p = 101.33 kPa) and low ambient temperature (e.g. 500 K), significant differences in evaporation characteristics among these fuels are observed. JP-4 has the longest droplet lifetime while JP-7’s is the shortest.
