In this paper, the temperature-dependent extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) of distorted crystalline cadmium has been analyzed using an efficient calculation-model. The analysis procedure is based on evaluating the influence of temperature on the phase shift and amplitude reduction of EXAFS oscillation that is expressed in terms of the EXAFS Debye-Waller factor.

A new PGNAA facility has been installed at horizontal channel No.4 of the Dalat research reactor. The facility consists of the following parts: collimators, beam stopper, sample holder table, beam catcher, and biological shielding. The construction takes into account the basic parameters associated with the facility, such as adequate thermal neutron flux and cadmium ratio, good signal-to-background condition, small gamma-ray contamination in the beam and appropriately low dose-rate to the operating personnel.

The application of non-targeted NMR methods combined with ICP-AES quantification provided an efficient strategy for detecting residual heavy metals within plant tissues and soil. Importantly, non-targeted metabolomic analysis helped to reveal the relationships between metabolites distribution in hemp tissues and the sequestered metals.

Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) analysis was used to evaluate the univariate contaminant exposure effect as well as the contaminant mixture effects on levels of thyroid hormones. Significant and positive associations were found between total T3 and PC-2 (high positive nickel and cadmium loadings), total T3 and PC-3 (negative association with negative loading for nickel and positive loading for cadmium) and TSH and PC-1 (high positive loadings for organic contaminants).

The as-deposited thin films were characterized by powdered X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Thin films of CdS deposited at low temperature (350◦C) consist of densely packed granular crystallites with an average size of ca. 150 nm, while at higher temperatures (400 and 450◦C) particles with varying sizes and mixed morphologies are observed. The ZnS thin films deposited at 400◦C showed rod-like structures, whereas dense globular-like structures were obtained at 450◦C.

Cloud point extraction (CPE), which is the most popular coacervate-based extraction method, was utilized for the separation and preconcentration of trace amounts of cadmium, lead, and nickel. Quinalizarin was used as complexing agent and Triton X-114 was used as surfactant. After extraction, analyte ions were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The detection limits (3 s) of 1.8 µg L −1 for Cd(II), 3.2 µg L −1 for Pb(II), and 2.8 µg L −1 for Ni(II) were obtained using 50 mL of solutions.

A new system was developed for the preconcentration and determination of cadmium levels in water following online cloud-point extraction and analysis by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The method uses cloud-point extraction of the complex formed between Cd(II) ions and the reagent 2-(5-bromo-2’-thiazolylazo)- p-cresol (Br-TAC) using Triton X-114 as a surfactant. The main steps of the procedure, extraction, filtration, and detection were conducted online.

Heat shock proteins (Hsps), also known as stress proteins, are expressed by living organisms. Hsp genes play key roles in the regulation of change in response to various abiotic stresses (e.g., salinity, drought, heavy metal, and extreme temperatures). In our previous studies, all Hsp family gene members were determined and named using bioinformatics approaches. We also examined their expression profiles under different stress conditions.

In this study, synthesis of two new tetracyanocadmate(II) and tetracyanozincate(II) complexes based on 3-aminopyridine (3AP) and investigation of their structural properties were reported. These complexes were characterized by using vibration spectroscopy, elemental, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) techniques. Investigation of the elemental, spectral and single crystal data of these complexes showed that the formulas [Cd(3AP)2Zn(μ4 -CN)4]n(1) and [Cd(3AP)2Cd(μ4-CN)4]n(2) fully explained their crystal structure.

Accumulation of cadmium (Cd) in maize (Zea mays L.) poses a significant risk to human health as it is ingested via the food chain. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted in a population of 269 maize accessions with 43,737 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to identify candidate genes and favorable alleles for controlling Cd accumulation in maize.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to play a vital role in several gene regulatory networks involved in the various biological processes in plants related to stress response. However, systematic analyses of lncRNAs expressed in rice Cadmium (Cd) stress are seldom studied. Thus, we presented the characterization and expression of lncRNAs in rice root development at an early stage in response to Cd stress.

Metal tolerance is often an integrative result of metal uptake and distribution, which are fine-tuned by a network of signaling cascades and metal transporters. Thus, with the goal of advancing the molecular understanding of such metal homeostatic mechanisms, comparative RNAseq-based transcriptome analysis was conducted to dissect differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in maize roots exposed to cadmium (Cd) stress.

Peanut is the world’s fourth largest oilseed crop that exhibits wide cultivar variations in cadmium (Cd) accumulation. To establish the mechanisms of Cd distribution and accumulation in peanut plants, eight cDNA libraries from the roots of two contrasting cultivars, Fenghua 1 (low-Cd cultivar) and Silihong (high-Cd cultivar), were constructed and sequenced by RNA-sequencing.

Hydrogen gas (H2) is hypothesised to play a role in plants that are coping with stresses by regulating signal transduction and gene expression. Although the beneficial role of H2 in plant tolerance to cadmium (Cd) has been investigated previously, the corresponding mechanism has not been elucidated.
