Ebook "Feeds for the aquaculture sector: Current situation and alternative sources" discusses potential alternative sources for feeds in aquaculture fish diet, and explains that the future of aquaculture’s development is dependent on the costs of fishmeal and fish oil. Considering that the increasing costs of traditional feeds constrain this development, research is looking into alternatives, which can ensure adequate nutrition for animals’ growth.

The extracts from 30 species of the green algae were examined for hemagglutination activity with a variety of different animal and human erythrocytes which were untreated and treated with enzymes. The hemagglutination activities of the green algal hemagglutinins were stable in a wide range of pH and temperature, and independent on divalent cations.

Beta-glucosidase (BGL) is an enzyme involved in the hydrolysis of cellulose and plays an important role in many biological processes. This enzyme is widely available in animals, plants, and microorganisms. Expression of the recombinant enzyme in Escherichia coli is considered a suitable choice for high production via a fast growth rate and feasible manipulation.

In the present investigation, sea rough fish were hydrolyzed with alcalase/peptidase combined enzymes (EA/EP). Raw material proximate composition was investigated. The results indicated that sea rough fish was successfully converted into hydrolysates that mainly composed of small size peptides and free amino acids. The essential amino acid could be served as a valuable source of nutrition for humans and animals.

The diagnosis of tularemia is not often considered in Germany as the disease is still rare in this country. Nonetheless, Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia, can infect numerous animal species and should, therefore, not be neglected as a dangerous pathogen.

The Maillard reaction products (MRPs) were synthesized during the gamma irradiation of mixtures of chitosan (CT) and/or oligochitosan (OC) with glucosamine (GA) at the dose of 25 kGy and investigated their some characteristics. The formations of MRPs were determined by UV-vis spectromectric analyses at the wavelength of 284 nm and 420 nm.
