Hox transcription factors specify segmental diversity along the anterior-posterior body axis in metazoans. While the different Hox family members show clear functional specificity in vivo, they all show similar binding specificity in vitro and a satisfactory understanding of in vivo Hox target selectivity is still lacking.

A new freshwater ostracod genus, Comalcandona gen. nov., and its type species (Comalcandona tressleri sp. nov.) are described from John Knox Ranch, Comal County, Texas, USA. The new genus differs from the related genera in the presence of the shallow pits on the trapezoidal shape of the carapace and presence of one well-developed anterior claw (posterior claw and both anterior and posterior setae are absent) on the uropod, a diagnostic character.

Annelids exhibit remarkable postembryonic developmental abilities. Most annelids grow during their whole life by adding segments through the action of a segment addition zone (SAZ) located in front of the pygidium. In addition, they show an outstanding ability to regenerate their bodies.

The degree of weightlessness during water immersion is usually estimated through percentage weight bearing (PWB). However, variations in PWB in different standing postures have not been documented. The study was designed to investigate the PWB of apparently healthy individuals in four standing postures at the anterior superior iliac spine level of immersion.

Patellar tendinopathy is a common cause of activity-related anterior knee pain. Evidence is conflicting as to whether obesity is a risk factor for this condition. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between obesity and prevalence of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) defined patellar tendinopathy in community-based adults.

Intraoperative pelvic tilt changes that occurs during total hip arthroplasty (THA) in the supine position affects cup placement and sometimes causes malalignment. The relationship between body mass index (BMI) and pelvic movement has been reported for some procedures, but not the direct anterior approach (DAA).

Whole-body vibration(WBV) has been suggested for the prevention of subchondral bone loss of knee osteoarthritis (OA) . This study examined the effects of different frequency of whole-body vibration on subchondral trabecular bone microarchitecture, cartilage degradation and metabolism of the tibia and femoral condyle bone, and joint pain in an anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT)–induced knee osteoarthritisrabbit model.

Surgical treatment is mainly used for atlantoaxial tuberculosis with neurological damage. However, the anatomic structure around the atlantoaxial joint is complex, and the position of vertebral body is deep, which increases the difficulty of the operation and it is challenging for the surgeon to develop surgical strategy.

The endplate-intervertebral disc (IVD) complex is closely interrelated with the vertebral body (VB) in the structural integrity of the anterior spinal column, including biomechanical and biological functions. Endplate and IVD injuries are usually found in association with vertebral fractures (VFs); however, little is known about their relevance to the healing of osteoporotic VFs (OVFs).

The roof of the oropharynx was formed by the hard palate and its anterior two third was divided by a median palatine ridge into right and left halves in flamingo followed by great Indian horned owl, emu, peahen. In buderiger the median palatine ridge was not noticed. The hard palate presented a long single median cleft called the choanal cleft which connected the oral cavity to the nasal cavity. The shape of the avian choanal cleft presented species to species difference in the present study.

The present study was conducted on the cervical vertebrae of three adult emu birds. The vertebrae were 17 in number. The atlas was ring shaped, the body of the axis presented anteriorly, a triangular dens and short thick transverse processes laterally and whose root presented a large foramen transversarium. There was a gradual increase in the length of the body of cervical vertebrae from third to seventeenth. The anterior end of the bodies showed a transversely concave and dorso-ventrally convex articular surface, while the posterior end showed a reverse condition.
