Detection of Methicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus using phenotypic and genotypic methods in a tertiary care hospital Institution: Institute of Microbiology, Madras Medical College. Abstract: Purpose: Methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) are significant pathogens that have emerged over the past 30 years to cause both nosocomial and community acquired infections. This study has been undertaken to compare the conventional and molecular methods in detecting MRSA. S. aureus was isolated from pus samples and identified by Gram stain and Catalase test.

Neonatal sepsis refers to systemic and generalized infection of the newborn which is documented by a positive blood culture in the first four weeks of life. It is one of the four leading causes of neonatal mortality in India, to isolate bacterial pathogens in neonates with clinical suspicion of sepsis from blood samples and to study their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. Blood samples collected from 1072 neonates with suspected sepsis were processed. Out of 1072 neonates 231(21.54%) were culture positive.

The main aim and objectives of this study includes to determine the Bacterial profile and their Anti-microbial susceptibility pattern of microbes in UTI patients and to detect and evaluate the prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) producing Gram Negative Uropathogens among the isolates. Also to determine the Antimicrobial susceptibility pattern for ESBL producers and ESBL non producers.

Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic disorder in which there is increase in blood glucose over a prolonged period. Out of the complications, Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a major medical, social, and economic problems and is the leading cause of hospitalization for patients with diabetes. Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Pseudomonas spp., Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus spp., are reported as frequent organism isolated from cases of diabetic foot infections.

Urinary tract infections, caused by multidrug resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are alarmingly escalating. Widespread utilization of empirical antibiotics without performing anti-microbial susceptibility testing led to expanding resistance to different classes of antimicrobial agents generally prescribed among UPEC isolates in our country. Therefore, this study aims to detect the prevalence and the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of UPEC isolates, in Tanta University Hospitals, Egypt. A total of 200 urine samples were collected from July 2015 to August 2016.

Community acquired pneumonia is an infection of pulmonary parenchyma. Despite of advancements in antimicrobial therapy, it stills remains a major threat with significant mortality and morbidity. It accounts for about 13-18% of all nosocomial infections. To identify microbial etiology of cases of Community acquired pneumonia, perform antibiotic susceptibility of the isolates & compare the anti-microbial resistance pattern with special reference to Streptococcus pneumoniae. The study was carried out at SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre from February 2012 to February 2013.
