Antibacterial and antioxidant activities

This study aimed to assess the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of 61 marine fungal strains isolated from 34 samples collected in the research journey of the Akademik Oparin vessel in the North Sea of Vietnam in 2021. Of these, 23 were from sponges, 21 from seaweeds, 15 from sediments, and only 2 from seawater.

Photocatalytic degradation proficiency was studied for bromothymol blue dye. Phytochemicals-coated Nickel Oxide nanoparticles demonstrated antibacterial properties against bacteria (gram negative strain of E. coli, Pseudomonas spp. and gram positive strain of Bacillus spp.) by showing highest zone of inhibition (19 mm, 22 mm, 15 mm).the antioxidant activity of the synthesized nanoparticles were also examined and the result show that the fabricated nanoparticles exhibited significant radical scavenging activity.

Ten novel 2-aryl-5-(arylsulfonyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazoles were produced and assessed for their in vitro antibacterial and antioxidant activities. Diverse spectroscopic methods like 1 H NMR, 13C NMR, IR, and LCMS were used for the characterization of the prepared samples and all the data was in good agreement with the anticipated structures.

The characterization of the biological properties of Chilean polyfloral honey was centered on their antioxidant and antibacterial activities. For this purpose, a significant number of samples were selected to evaluate their biological properties. Coumarinyl 1,3,4-oxadiazoles were synthesized from Schiff bases and acetic anhydride. All compounds were characterized by melting points and their structures confirmed by mass and 1H and 13C NMR spectrometry. These novel coumarinyl derivatives were subjected to antibacterial, antifungal, antaflatoxigenic, and antioxidant activity. Their activity varied depending on their structure, where 2-(3-acetyl-5-(((4-methyl-2-oxo-2 H -chromen-7-yl)oxy)methyl)- 2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-1,4-phenylene diacetate showed significant antioxidant and antibacterial activity on B. subtilis.

2-Substituted 8-propargyloxyquinoline derivatives have been synthesized from 2-substituted-8-hydroxyquinolines by O-propargylation method (30%–98% yields). The newly synthesized compounds were tested for in vitro antioxidant activities such as DPPH radical scavenging, ferrous chelating, and reducing power activities. The maximum radical scavenging (46.5%) and reducing power activities were obtained from 1 and maximum ferrous chelating effect was obtained from 6 (72.1%) at the concentration of 500 µg/mL. To indicate DNA binding activity of the complexes calf thymus DNA was used.

Eleven novel 1,2,4-triazolylbenzotriazoles have been prepared using 1-(hydrazinylcarbonylmethyl)-1H -benzotriazole (3) as a potent intermediate. Compound 3, however, was obtained from benzotriazole in two steps. All synthesized compounds were characterized by detailed spectral studies like IR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and mass spectrometry. All synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against seven strains of bacteria and four strains of fungi.

Schiff base derivatives with anthracene- and pyrene-based units, A1-A6 and P1-P6 were synthesized (89%–99% yields). Schiff base derivatives were designed to possess an heterocyclic moiety on one side to enhance the coordination ability towards metals. To investigate the biological assay of the newly synthesized compounds, their DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging, metal chelating, reducing power, antibacterial and DNA binding activities were tested. A6 (63.1%) showed the maximum free radical scavenging activity among all.

Laggera tomentosa Sch. Bip. ex Oliv. et Hiern (Asteraceae), an endemic Ethiopian medicinal plant, is traditionally used to treat various ailments. Previously, the chemical constituents of the essential oil (EO) of its leaves and inflorescence were documented. However, no data about the chemical compositions of other parts of the EOs of the plant have been reported to date. The obtained results indicate that the complexes bind to DNA through intercalation mode, which is further validated by molecular docking studies. The hydrolytic cleavage of the pBR322 DNA from supercoiled to nicked form, by the metal complexes was investigated by gel electrophoresis technique. The metal complexes were also screened for their antioxidant, antiinflammatory and antibacterial activities and the findings have been reported.
