Klebsiella spp. are opportunistic pathogens which can cause severe infections, are often multi-drug resistant and are a common cause of hospital-acquired infections. Multiple new Klebsiella species have recently been described, yet their clinical impact and antibiotic resistance profiles are largely unknown.

In order to study the relations of hepatocellular functions, weight gain and metabolic imbalance caused by low-dose antibiotics (LDA) via epigenetic regulation of gene transcription, 32 weaned piglets were employed as animal models and randomly allocated into two groups with diets supplemented with 0 or LDA (chlorotetracycline and virginiamycin).

Infants born prematurely, particularly extremely low birth weight infants (ELBW) have altered gut microbial communities. Factors such as maternal health, gut immaturity, delivery mode, and antibiotic treatments are associated with microbiota disturbances, and are linked to an increased risk of certain diseases such as necrotising enterocolitis. Therefore, there is a requirement to optimally characterise microbial profiles in this at-risk cohort, via standardisation of methods, particularly for studying the influence of microbiota therapies (e.g.

Osteomyelitis is the infection and inflammation of the bone. Inappropriate use of antibiotics and multidrug resistance has raised the morbidity and mortality rate in chronic osteomyelitis. This study aims to determine the bacterial profile and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of chronic osteomyelitis with special mention to various resistant mechanisms. Samples from osteomyelitis cases were aerobically cultured and isolates from culture positives were identified by standard procedures. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done by Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method.

Anti-tuberculosis therapy requires at least six-month treatment with continuous administration of combined antibiotics, including isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol. The long-term exposure to antibiotics could cause consequent changes in gut microbiota, which may alter the gastrointestinal function and drug absorption in patients, thereby affect the outcome of treatment.

The present study was conducted to determine and to compare the microbial population of ATM and computer keyboard within the University of Port Harcourt and also to determine the role of plasmid and resistance in Staphylococcus sp isolated from the high touch areas. A total of 70 swabbed samples was collected and cultured on different media and the organisms were identified using its colonial, morphological biochemical characteristics. The identified bacteria were subjected to antibiotic sensitivity test using the disc diffusion method.

The aim of this study is to determine the antimicrobial resistance profile patterns to 15 antibiotics and heavy metals (Zn+2, Cu+2 and Cd+2) by Pantoeaagglomerans bacteria. The (MIC) of the heavy metals was varied from 200 µg /mL to 2200 µg/mL. The results showed that the bacteria were resistant to Zn+2, Cu+2 and Cd+2, considering the MIC values compared with the strain Escherichia coli K-12 used as control. P.

The present study aimed to explore the antibacterial activity of some seaweed extracts against urinary tract (UTI) infectious bacteria. To compare the activity of these extracts as natural drug sources with the standard synthetic antibiotics against multidrug resistant (MDR) isolates. Finally, to compare the virulence gene profiles of the UTI isolates and detect the effect of seaweeds treatment on their virulence activities.

Blood stream infections are very common in paediatric age group and are one of the common causes of morbidity and mortality. Septicaemia gradually leads to serious consequences like shock, multi organ failure, DIC etc. Timely identification of causative pathogen by blood culture (gold standard) is important. Antibiogram also helps us to elevate consciousness on resistance problems and recognise prospect to decrease the use of inappropriate antibiotics. The study was undertaken to evaluate major bacterial isolates causing septicaemia and their antibiogram pattern.

Aim of the study is to identify uropathogens causing urinary tract infection. To detect ESBLs, MBLs, AmpC producing isolates from urine. Cross sectional study of 300 urine samples was conducted in Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences. The samples were processed and gram negative bacilli were identified as per Mackie McCarteny 14th edition. Detection of ESBLs, MBLs and AmpCs producing organisms among the isolates was done by both screening and confirmatory test as per CLSI guidelines.
