Antifungal sensitivity

The present study help in identifying the etiological agents of canine dermatitis and otitis and in vitro antimicrobial and antifungal sensitivity tests against the known etiological agents and help in taking quick decision in selecting antimicrobials for effective treatment of canine dermatitis and otitis cases.

Candida is an opportunistic fungi responsible for causing Candidiasis when the patients immunity is low. Emergence of Nonalbicans Candida along with Candida albicans is also increasing. Increased use of antifungal drugs, use of antibiotics, long term use of catheters has contributes to resistance to antifungal drugs. Isolation of Candida species by conventional and Hichrome agar was done. Antifungal sensitivity testing was done by disc diffusion method.

Blood stream infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among neutropenic patients. Despite use of antibiotics and antifungals FN remains a therapeutic challenge. It prolongs hospital stay, increases health-care costs, and compromises chemotherapy efficacy in patients with malignancy who commonly experience neutropenia. This study depicts the microbiological profile, antibiotic sensitivity pattern and relation of BSI and degree of neutropenia in the neutropenic patients.

The present study was taken with the objective of isolation, characterization, molecular detection and antifungal sensitivity of Malassezia species from dermatitis cases from dogs in and around Pondicherry state. A total of 100 skin swabs were collected from the dogs showing dermatological problems suggestive of Malassezia. Out of 100 swabs, 41 Malassezia isolates were successfully isolated and had good growth on Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar (SDA) during the primary isolation from the skin swabs.

The aim of present study was to isolate, identify various species of Candida responsible for producing clinical Candidacies from blood culture and to determine antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida species by disc diffusion method. study was conducted at Microbiology department P.D.U Medical college Rajkot from March 2014 to June 2015. Blood samples from suspected cases were inoculated in to Brain Heart Infusion broth were incubated at 370C and subcultured routinely.

Honey is defined as a natural sweet substance which is produced from the floral nectar by honeybees. Honey is well-known for its antimicrobial activities and it has been reported to have antibacterial effect to about 60 species of bacteria and antifungal properties as well. Honey has been used to inhibit these bacteria as well as to prevent and treat skin and other infections. Honey as a tropical antibacterial agent for treatment of infected wounds. The natural ingredients of honey show different activities against various microorganisms.

In the present study 86 number of skin scrapings were collected from various breeds like Labrador retriever (n=32), German shepherd (n=21), Spitz (n=9), Dacshund (n=16), Mastiff (n=5), Boxer (n=3) and age groups from 6 months to, above 3 year with characteristics ring like lesions, alopecia, irregular patches of hair loss. All the dogs were presented to teaching veterinary clinical complex, Odisha veterinary college from December 2018 to June 2019.On routine identification of fungus out of 86 number of skin scrappings it was revealed that arthospores were present in 54 number of samples.

In the present study 88 number of corneal swabs were collected from 8 different breeds of dog suffering from corneal diseases. All the dogs were presented to Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex of Odisha Veterinary College for treatment during the period from December 2018 to June 2019. The breeds consists of Non-descript (n=18), Pug (n=11), Labrador (n=10), German shepherd (n=12), Spitz (n=14), Golden retriever (n=10), Dalmatian (n=7), and Mastiff (n=6).

The present study was undertaken to study the antifungal effect of curcumin and other synthetic antifungal agents against Aspergillus species isolated from poultry feed. During this study poultry feeds collected from poultry farm of Odisha Veterinary College. Various concentrations of curcumin like 25mg/disc, 50mg/disc, 100mg/disc and 200mg/disc were prepared and were tested by disc diffusion method.

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the finger or toe nail caused by various fungal agents like dermatophytes, non dermatophytes moulds and yeasts. It is necessary to diagnose the infection with proper laboratory evidences before treating them with antifungal drugs, which require prolonged duration of treatment and may have adverse side effects. This study involves comparison of standard laboratory tests in the diagnosis of onychomycosis, namely, potassium hydroxide mount (KOH mount), Calcofluor white staining and fungal culture of the nail clippings.

Candida spp. can cause a wide variety of infections in immunosuppressed patients of long term broad – spectrum antibiotics, steroids or other immunosuppressive agents, diabetes mellitus, AIDS, Malignancy, Neutropenia. Although the majority of infections are caused by Candida albicans, Non-C. albicans Candida (NCAC) species are emerging as important pathogen in humans. Our study included 130 clinical isolates which showed gram positive budding yeasts cells with or without pseudohyphae.

Invasive aspergillosis has increased considerably in recent years; this serious infection was primarily described in severely immunocompromised patients and patients with moderate levels of immune suppression. We conducted this study on 85 patients admitted to the chest department and chest ICU with severe exacerbations of chronic lung diseases in the period from April 2018 to April 2019. We collected tracheal aspirates BAL fluid and blood samples for isolation of Aspergillus spp. by convectional culture and assay of galactomannan level in these samples using ELISA. Aspergillus spp.

Candida species are a common cause of neonatal nosocomial bloodstream infections in infants and are a leading cause of infectious-related mortality in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The objective of this study was to determine the predominant organisms, antifungal sensitivity patterns and clinical risk factors in neonatal fungal blood stream infection cases (BSI) admitted to our hospital. This is a retrospective study of all neonatal fungal BSI cases between May 2018 and October 2018. Fungal sepsis was found in 25/210 (11.9%) of cases.
