Lifestyle factors such as hair length, the frequency of ear cleaning and bathing, age, cat rearing, and sex may contribute to opportunistic yeast infections in the external ear canal of cats. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of commensal yeast organisms in cats’ external ear canals, evaluate their predisposing lifestyle factors, and test the susceptibility of Malassezia pachydermatis to antifungal agents.

The present study was done to evaluate the antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida species by Disc diffusion method which is helpful for guiding therapy. All clinical samples sent to the Microbiology laboratory were inoculated on to Blood agar and MacConkey agar. The suspected colonies of Candida were identified by Gram stain and inoculated onto CHROM Candida differential agar for speciation.

Hospital acquired Candida infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality especially in critically ill and immunocompromised patients. Therefore, an accurate and early identification is necessary for the management of patients. The aim of our study was rapid identification of Candida species and their antifungal susceptibility testing (AST) by VITEK 2 system in hospital acquired fungal infections.

Blood infection due to Candida species are major cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalised patients. The spectrum of candidemia has changed to Non albicans Candida species and also shows resistance to commonly used azoles drugs. To study prevalence of Candida species isolated from blood culture samples and to isolate and identify different Candida species with their antifungal susceptibility testing. Blood samples were collected and incubated in automated blood culture system.

A total of 100 isolates of candida species were recovered from various clinical samples. C. albicans was the most common isolated species (42%) followed by C. krusei (17%) C. tropicalis (15%) C. parapsilosis (13%) C. famata (8%) C. glabrata (4%) and Cryptococcus species (1%). Non albicans Candida were isolated at a higher rate (58%) than C. albicans. Most of the Candida isolate were susceptible to Amphotericin (81%) followed by Nystastin (79%) and Miconazole (58%). Fluconazole was least effective with 79% resistant.

During recent decades, there has been a change in the epidemiology of Candida infections, characterized by progressive shift from predominance of Candida albicans to non albicans Candida. The aim of present study to isolate and identify the different Candida spp. from BSIs and evaluate its antifungal susceptibility pattern the present study was conducted in department of Microbiology for a period of one year (January - December 2016) which included, 48 Candida spp. isolated from BSIs.

Candida albicans is the most common aetiological agent in candiduria cases commonly observed in hospitalized patients. But a few reports are available from India where non albicans Candida species have accounted for >50 per cent of urinary Candida isolates. We undertook this study to know the Candida species profile amongst candiduria cases. A total of 119 consecutive Candida isolates obtained from clinically suspected cases of urinary tract infection from January 2016 to June 2017 (18 months), were included.

This study was undertaken to find out incidence of Candidiasis, their species identification and susceptibility of azole derivatives. In 6 months period, total 43 Candida spp. were isolated from various clinical samples, among which C. albicans (46.5%), C. tropicalis (24.5%), C. glabrata (23.4%) and C. krusie (4.6%).Susceptibility to Ketoconazole (KT), Fluconazole (FLC) and Itraconazole (IT) were detected.

The present study was taken with the objective of isolation, characterization, molecular detection and antifungal sensitivity of Malassezia species from dermatitis cases from dogs in and around Pondicherry state. A total of 100 skin swabs were collected from the dogs showing dermatological problems suggestive of Malassezia. Out of 100 swabs, 41 Malassezia isolates were successfully isolated and had good growth on Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar (SDA) during the primary isolation from the skin swabs.

Dermatophytoses broadly includes superficial fungal infection of skin, hair and nail. In India dermatophytic infection are very common superficial fungal infections due to hot and humid climate in most of the part of country. A study was planned to find clinicomycological profile of dermatophytic infection in our arid zone along with study of predisposing factors and to find out species commonly involved. To guide the clinician regarding therapeutic options antifungal susceptibility was carried out.

Pulmonary fungal infections are common potentially life-threatening conditions in immuno-compromised patients. Diagnosis represents a challenge due to the non-specific clinical manifestations. Empirical use of anti-fungal drug therapy has been a burden for years due to high cost and drug toxicity. This study was designed to determine the presence of Candida chest infection in immuno-compromised patients in Tanta University Hospitals. A total of 150 patients with chest infection were selected during the period from June 2015 till June 2017.

Maize (Zea mays L.) is a major food crop of global importance is greatly affected by turcicum leaf blight commonly called as northern leaf blight caused by fungal pathogen Exserohilum turcicum. The morphological and molecular screening of maize genotypes for resistance against turcicum leaf blight is very crucial in maize crop improvement programme. Morphologically genotypes were classified based on the disease severity as resistance and susceptible genotypes.
