Previous studies have identified substantial regional variations in outpatient antibiotic prescribing in Germany, both in the paediatric and adult population. This indicates inappropriate antibiotic prescribing in some regions, which should be avoided to reduce antimicrobial resistance and potential side effects.

Syzygium boisianum (Gagnep.) Merr. & L.M.Perry, locally named Tram bois, is widely distributed in primary or secondary forests of Vietnam, Thailand, and China. [6] For the first time, the current report provides information on chemical compositions in essential oil of S. boisianum leaves, collected from the northern part of central Vietnam. The obtained oil was also used to assess its antibacterial effects. The biological potential is highlighted by the molecular docking study.

Magnolia citrata Noot. & Chalermglin was collected in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and examined for its essential oils’ chemical compositions and antimicrobial activities. The essential oils were obtained from the leaves, twigs, and stem barks of M. citrata using hydrodistillation, then analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and evaluated for antimicrobial activities.

This study aimed to isolate and identify marine fungi from Bai Tu Long Bay and assess their antimicrobial potential. We successfully isolated twenty strains of marine-derived fungi. The crude extracts from these fungi were tested against pathogenic microorganisms. All twenty strains exhibit some degree of growth inhibition against the tested microorganisms.

Ebook "Macrophages: Biology and role in the pathology of diseases" have suggested macrophages and their related molecules as potential targets in therapeutic applications. Available evidence proclaims macrophages as a key player in homeostasis, host defense and disease. Crucial developments in the past few years call for a re-evaluation and update of our understanding of macrophages. The present book is an endeavour that attempts provide state-of-the art knowledge of these cells in health and disease.

Ebook "Prokaryotic antimicrobial peptides: From genes to applications" will provide an overview of the advancement of fundamental knowledge and applications of antimicrobial peptides in biomedical, agricultural, veterinary, food, and cosmetic products. Antimicrobial peptides stand as potentially great alternatives to current antibiotics, and most research in this newly-created area has been published in journals and other periodicals. It is the editors’ opinion that it is timely to sum up the most important achievements in the field and provide the scientific community in a reference book.

In the last few decades, pyrazoline-based substances have emerged as potential antimicrobial and anticancer candidates. In concern with antimicrobial activity, this study aims to build a docking model to predict the structure of potential 2-pyrazoline derivatives. The cytotoxicity of some compounds was also evaluated to get insight into the structure–anticancer activity relationship of the 2- pyrazoline derivatives.

Nowadays, as the global population grows, the demand for food is also becoming higher each day. Together with the rise in food demand, Muscovy duck has been gradually bred industrially as a poultry food supply along with the chicken. The change from traditional to industrial breeding poses a potential risk of pathogenic bacteria infection and antimicrobial resistance bacteria.

The species belonging to the Lamiaceae family have been useful tools for many years as a folk remedy. In the present study, a microemulsion system was developed with extract of Scutellaria salviifolia Benth (endemic), Sideritis libanotica Labill. subsp. linearis (Bentham) Bornm (endemic), and Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam. Both and related microemulsion formulations were also investigated for their potential biological activities.

Successful treatment of skin infections requires eradication of biofilms found in up to 90 % of all chronic wounds, causing delayed healing and increased morbidity. We hypothesized that chitosan hydrogel boosts the activity of liposomally-associated membrane active antimicrobials (MAA) and could potentially improve bacterial and biofilm eradication.

Periodontal disease (PD) in dogs is prompted by the establishment of a polymicrobial biofilm at the tooth surface and a subsequent host inflammatory response. Several strategies may be used for PD control, including dental hygiene home care procedures, like toothbrushing, special diet and chew toys that reduce dental plaque accumulation, or professional periodontal treatments.
