The biological activities of E. ciliata essential oils (Ec EOs) in Vietnam have yet to be thoroughly studied and have received less attention than other species of genus Elsholtzia in the world. In this study, we evaluated the antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer of Ec EOs and examined their chemical compositions. Fresh leaves of E. ciliata were hydro-distilled to yield essential oil of 0.82% dry weight, respectively.

In this study, MeOH and petroleum ether (PE) extracts of Symphytum aintabicum Hub.-Mor. & Wickens were analyzed for their biological activities and GC-MS analysis, antioxidant, antimicrobial activities, DNA cleavage effect, and anticancer activity on the MCF-7 human breast cell line. The phytochemical constituents of the main composition of S. aintabicum extracts were determined.

Onosma L., the largest genus of Boraginaceae, is represented by 105 species in Turkey with an endemism rate of 52%. Phytochemical studies indicate that Boraginaceae plants mainly comprise naphthoquinones with a wide range of biological activities including anticancer, antiinflammatory, wound healing, and antioxidant effects. Xanthohumol is a prenylated chalcone that exhibit antioxidant, anticancer and chemoprotective effects. Its only source in human nutrition is beer, nevertheless a large part of xanthohumol from hops is isomerized by heat to isoxanthohumol and desmethylxanthohumol, from which a racemic mixture of 6- and 8-prenylnaringenins is formed during the beer production. Xanthohumol is also converted to isoxanthohumol by digestion, leading to the formation of 8-prenylnaringenin that is being catalyzed by the enzymes of the intestinal microorganisms as well as liver enzymes.

Finding novel cholinesterase inhibitors that would be able to cross the blood–brain barrier, have favorable pharmacokinetic parameters, and reduce hepatotoxicity along with other side effects has been the main focus of investigations dealing with Alzheimer disease. In this study we evaluated cholinesterase inhibitory and antioxidant activity of seven oxazole derivatives. These compounds have been efficiently and sustainably prepared by photochemical electrocyclization reaction.

In this study, novel 2-substituted benzimidazoles molecules having triazole, thiadiazole, and oxadiazole rings were synthesized and were evaluated by anticancer, antioxidant/oxidant status, genotoxicity, and antiangiogenesis assays. Anticancer activity of the compounds was determined by MTT (0.5, 5, and 50 µg/mL) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assays against human prostate and breast cancer cells. Oxidative status of cells was elicited by total oxidative stress and total antioxidant capacity methods.

3-acetyl coumarin derivatives (1a-d) are formed as a result of condensation of salicylaldehyde derivatives and ethyl acetoacetate and were converted into coumarin-selenophene hybrid compounds (2a-d) in the basic medium by modified Gewald reaction in the presence of malononitrile and selenium. Products are characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The prepared compounds are screened for their anticancer activity against DU-145 cell line. In addition, selected target compounds are evaluated for apoptosis and oxidative stress on DU-145 (prostate carcinoma) cell lines.

Pisonia alba commonly known as Leechikottaikerai in tamil is a widely used plant. In the alternative system of medicine Pisonia alba leaves are used as anti-inflammatory, antidiuretic and antifungal. Mukia maderaspatana is an important traditional medicinal plant used generally in Western districts of Tamilnadu. It has properties like anti-rheumatic, antiflatulent and anticancer also.
