This study screened phytochemicals to determine their total polyphenols content (TPC) by Folin-Ciocalteu reagents and to evaluate antioxidant activity using DPPH scavenging, ABTS cation decolorization, and reducing power assays of various extracts of Symplocos cochinchinensis leaves. A correlation between TPC and antioxidant activity was analysed by Pearson’s method.

Several 5-(alkylsulfonyl)-1-substituted-2-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole derivatives were synthesized and their antioxidant activities were investigated using lipid peroxidation (LPO) and 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) assays. Docking analysis with Human NAD[P]H-Quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) was also performed to gather thorough information about these compounds that have antioxidant activities.

In the present study, Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from Salvia officinalis and Thymus vulgaris, known as phytotherapy plants. The obtained silver nanoparticles were characterized using SEM, XRD, FTIR, and UV/Vis spectra. The antioxidant capacities of Salvia officinalis-mediated AgNP (SO-AgNP) and Thymus vulgaris-mediated AgNP (TV-AgNP) were analyzed in vitro using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and iron chelating activity assays.

This study uses sunflower hulls, a by-product from the sunflower snack industry, to recover both, valuable phenolic compounds and cellulose fibers, for the production of antioxidant reinforced starch films as potential food packaging material. The phenolic extract provided antioxidant properties to the films with EC50 values of 89 mg film/mg DPPH.

The pomelo peel occupies 50% of the fruit mass in pomelo juice processing. It contains large amounts of phenolic compounds, which may provide benefits to human health. These components should be isolated. In this study, the effects of ethanol concentrations, material-to-solvent ratios (g/mL), temperatures and sonication time on total phenolic content (TPC), naringin content and antioxidant capacity (using DPPH assay) of extract solution was evaluated.

This work was planned to research the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and/or vitamin E (VE) and sodium selenite (SS), which have antioxidant properties, administered to the liver tissue of male rats. For this purpose, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, antioxidant capacity, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP nick-end labeling assay, liver function, and DNA structure tests were performed. The lipid profile was also evaluated in this study. Rats that were administered LPS were treated with VE and/or SS.

The purpose of this research is to assess the flavonoid content and antioxidant ability of various cardamom fruit extracts (ethanol and ethyl acetate), particularly those of 4 indigenous Indonesian accessions, and to evaluate the correlation between the antioxidant activity performed by CUPRAC and DPPH assays and the flavonoid contents. The results will provide valuable information for future studies and use cardamom for commercial purposes in a plant breeding program.

The aim of the present study was to synthesize and characterize benzothiazine derivatives prepared by using 2-aminothiophenol and saccharine and in vitro screen their enzyme inhibition and antioxidant potential. Nine different derivatives were prepared and their structures were confirmed by spectral studies (EIMS, 1H and 13 C NMR). Enzyme inhibition potential of the synthesized compounds was evaluated by Ellman’s method, while antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH and FRAP assays.

Anticholinesterase furocoumarins from Heracleum platytaenium, a species endemic to the Ida Mountains
The petroleum ether extract of Heracleum platytaenium afforded 8 furocoumarins (psoralen, bergapten, xanthotoxin, pimpinellin, isopimpinellin, sphondin, byakangelicin, and heraclenol) and the methanol extract of H. platytaenium gave only 1 glycosylated dihydrofurocoumarin, apterin. In addition, stigmasterol was also obtained from petroleum ether extract. Structure identification of the isolated compounds has been achieved by using spectroscopic methods, namely 1D and 2D NMR experiments and mass spectral analyses.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the potential biological activities of black cumin seed oil (BCSO) and wheat germ oil (WGO) on different cell lines. Initially, commercially available BCSO and WGO obtained by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction were analyzed in terms of tocopherol, aliphatic alcohols, and thymoquinone content via HPLC and GC analysis. Cell free antioxidant activities and total phenolic content of both oils were detected by DPPH assay and Folin–Ciocalteu method, respectively.

Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) transition metal complexes of 2-hydroxy-5-[(E)-(4-phenyl) diazenyl] benzaldehyde oxime and 2-hydroxy-5-[(E)-(4-nitrophenyl) diazenyl] benzaldehyde oxime ligands were synthesized and characterized through NMR, IR, ESI mass, and UV analysis. DNA binding abilities of the complexes were revealed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer with the absorption titration and competitive binding techniques. Hydrolytic and oxidative DNA cleavage activities under different conditions were also proved.

In this study, a novel spectrofluorometric assay based on p-cresol (4-methyl phenol) probe is developed for the measurement of HOBr scavenging activity. It is the first study involving the use of a p-cresol probe for the determination of the HOBr scavenging activity of biothiols. While the p-cresol probe (λex = 260 nm, λem = 305 nm) has fluorescence characteristics, its brominated derivatives emerging at the end of the oxidation reaction with HOBr do not show fluorescence.

Lipid-soluble endogenous antioxidants, such as tocopherols, protect biological structures from oxidative damage through their chain-breaking ability and thus the development of a simple method for tocopherol determination is important. In this study, a novel optical sensor-based method was proposed for determining total tocopherol content (TTC) of serum, with selectivity for α-tocopherol over β -carotene.
