In the micropropagation of difficult-to-root plants, the low rates of rooting cause high economic losses. The local apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) cultivar #67, which is highly resistant to fire blight disease, has been shown to have low rooting success. Nanoparticles loaded with auxins could increase the rooting success with their physicochemical properties.

Erwinia amylovora is generally considered to be a homogeneous species in terms of phenotypic and genetic features. However, strains show variation in their virulence, particularly on hosts with different susceptibility to fire blight. We applied the RNA-seq technique to elucidate transcriptome-level changes of the lowly virulent E. amylovora 650 strain during infection of shoots of susceptible (Idared) and resistant (Free Redstar) apple cultivars.

Bagging is commonly used to enhance red pigmentation and thereby improve fruit quality of apples (Malus domestica). The green-skinned apple cultivar ‘Granny Smith’ develops red pigmentation after bagging removal, but the signal transduction pathways mediating light-induced anthocyanin accumulation in apple peel are yet to be defined.

Guava (Psidium guajava L.) is an important fruit crop of tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Genomics resources in guava are scanty. RNA-Seq based tissue specific expressed genomic information, de novo transcriptome assembly, functional annotation and differential expression among contrasting genotypes has a potential to set the stage for the functional genomics for traits of commerce like colored flesh and apple color peel.

Aroma is one the most crucial inherent quality attributes of fruit. ‘Ruixue’ apples were selected from a cross between ‘Pink Lady’ and ‘Fuji’, a later ripening yellow new cultivar. However, there is little known about the content and composition of aroma compounds in ‘Ruixue’ apples or the genetic characters of ‘Ruixue’ and its parents.

Apple (Malus ssp.), one of the most important temperate fruit crops, has a long cultivation history and is economically important. To identify the genetic relationships among the apple germplasm accessions, wholegenome structural variants identified between M. domestica cultivars ‘Jonathan’ and ‘Golden Delicious’ were used.

Apple being a temperate fruit is been widely grown under a large area in the Himalayan regions of India because of the favorable climatic conditions. Mountains are however amongst the most fragile experiencing extreme weather conditions, like rising temperature, uneven precipitation, spring hailstorms, and cold waves which severely affect the production of temperate crops.

The productivity of apple in Jammu and Kashmir is 8.57 metric tons per hectare, when it is compared with the productivity of developed nations of the world this figure is very low and there is plenty of difference in the productivity. In order to curtail this gap a number of factors has to be reviewed seriously and address them priority wise. The factors of prime importance were identified as compatibility of pollen in apple orchards that actually determines the productivity of this most important fruit crop known as king of temperate fruits.

Premature leaf fall is one of the most important diseases of apple particularly in Himachal Pradesh. Present studies were carried out with the objectives to study the mode of survival of Diplocarpon mali in the infected leaf litter, to study the effect of time of leaf fall, cultivar and environment on the perennation of Diplocarpon mali.

Generally, double-flowered varieties are more attractive than single-flowered varieties in ornamental plants. Japanese gentian is one of the most popular floricultural plants in Japan, and it is desirable to breed elite double-flowered cultivars. In this study, we attempted to characterize a doubled-flower mutant of Japanese gentian.

Improvement of water-use efficiency (WUE) can effectively reduce production losses caused by drought stress. A better understanding of the genetic determination of WUE in crops under drought stress has great potential value for developing cultivars adapted to arid regions.

Fruit color in apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) is ascribed mainly to the accumulation of anthocyanin pigments, and is an important trait for determining fruit market acceptance. Bagging is a commonly used treatment to enhance the red pigmentation in apple skin.

Apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) is one of the most important fruit tree crops of temperate areas, with great economic and cultural value. Apple cultivars can be maintained for centuries in plant collections through grafting, and some are thought to date as far back as Roman times.

This study was aimed to determine the rootstock effect on various horticultural traits like annual extension growth, tree volume, TCSA, fruit weight, fruit volume and yield were significantly affected by rootstocks and recorded maximum vegetative growth in trees on MM106 compared to M9 rootstock during the studies. The vegetative growth also varied significantly among cultivars which are genetically controlled feature in different apple cultivars.

A wide range of phytochemicals are present in apple (Malus domestica Borkh), their production was accelerated when apple was subjected to biotic stress. These chemicals were measured in the leaf of apple cultivar Shireen, healthy and infected by Venturia inaequalis and examined by microscope. Scab-induced metabolic re-programming was analyzed by methanol leaf extract by using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, while the mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract were matched with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) library.

Guava (Psidium guajava L; Myrtaceae) popularly known as “apple of tropics” is an important fruit crop of India. It is largely a self-pollinated crop, but crosspollination also does occur. This results in a large variability in the seedling population. Among cultivars, substantial variation exists in terms of growth pattern, yielding behavior, fruit characters (peel, shape etc.) and physio-chemical composition, aroma, pulp to seed ratio, seed characters. Assessment of variability can be achieved through morphological characters, chemical composition and by biotechnological tools.
