The productivity of apple in Jammu and Kashmir is 8.57 metric tons per hectare, when it is compared with the productivity of developed nations of the world this figure is very low and there is plenty of difference in the productivity. In order to curtail this gap a number of factors has to be reviewed seriously and address them priority wise. The factors of prime importance were identified as compatibility of pollen in apple orchards that actually determines the productivity of this most important fruit crop known as king of temperate fruits.

Field evaluation of MAK all season Horticultural Mineral Oil (HMO) was done against San Jose scale Quadraspidiotus perniciosus Comstock and European red mite Panonychus ulmi Koch in apple orchards at two locations in Kashmir under field conditions during year 2014-2015. Phytotoxicity and effect on natural enemies were also recorded. HP (HMO) was used as standard check for conducting the experiment. Both the oils were sprayed during dormant and summer season to suppress different stages of the insect pests. Different concentrations of oil were sprayed viz., 2.5, 2.0 and 1.

Fruits as a back bone of horticulture are grown over an area of 5.50 million hectares in our country with a production of over 55 million metric tones per year. Our country accounts for 10% of the total world production. Among various fruits, apple being the pre-dominant temperate fruit of India accounts for about 3% of the total fruit production of the country. India stands 8th in apple production in the world but ranks at 53rd position in terms of productivity (FOA, 2007).

The present study is an attempt to find past trends of apple in Jammu and Kashmir using parametric, nonparametric and semi-parametric regression methods. The performance of each method is compared using higher values of R2 and lower values of residual criteria. It is found that the nonparametric/semi-parametric regression comes out to be good fit for trends in apple production in comparison to the parametric regression.
