In the micropropagation of difficult-to-root plants, the low rates of rooting cause high economic losses. The local apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) cultivar #67, which is highly resistant to fire blight disease, has been shown to have low rooting success. Nanoparticles loaded with auxins could increase the rooting success with their physicochemical properties.

The objective of the study "Effects of some commercial products on root and crown rot caused by Phytophthora cactorum in apple cultivation" was to evaluate the effects of eleven commercial products (bio-pesticides, fertilizers, and activators) on P. cactorum by comparing plant growth parameters (trunk diameter, plant height, number of branches, and root dry weight). Trials were conducted according to a randomized complete block design with three replicates in a greenhouse in 2 consecutive years.

The FK506-binding proteins (FKBPs) play diverse roles in numerous critical processes for plant growth, development, and abiotic stress responses. However, the FKBP gene family in the important fruit crop apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) has not been studied as thoroughly as in other species. Our research objective was to investigate the mechanisms by which apple FKBPs enable apple plants to tolerate the effects of abiotic stresses.

As an important group of the multidrug efflux transporter family, the multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE) family has a wide range of functions and is distributed in all kingdoms of living organisms. However, only two MATE genes in apple have been analyzed and genome-wide comprehensive analysis of MATE family is needed.

Gibberellins (GAs) can have profound effects on growth and development in higher plants. In contrast to their flowering-promotive role in many well-studied plants, GAs can repress flowering in woody perennial plants such as apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.).

Bagging is commonly used to enhance red pigmentation and thereby improve fruit quality of apples (Malus domestica). The green-skinned apple cultivar ‘Granny Smith’ develops red pigmentation after bagging removal, but the signal transduction pathways mediating light-induced anthocyanin accumulation in apple peel are yet to be defined.

Apple (Malus ssp.), one of the most important temperate fruit crops, has a long cultivation history and is economically important. To identify the genetic relationships among the apple germplasm accessions, wholegenome structural variants identified between M. domestica cultivars ‘Jonathan’ and ‘Golden Delicious’ were used.

The sucrose transporter MdSUT4.1 participates in the regulation of fruit sugar accumulation in apple
Sugar content is an important determinant of fruit sweetness, but details on the complex molecular mechanism underlying fruit sugar accumulation remain scarce. Here, we report the role of sucrose transporter (SUT) family in regulating fruit sugar accumulation in apple.

Apple is the leading fruit in the temperate regions of the world due its major share in the production of temperate fruit crops. Heterozygocity is the major problem for the production of true-to-type plants which leads to the production of propagule through vegetative means. Grafting is the one of the major artificial vegetative means of propagation. But the graft incompatibility and many other things lead to the failure of grafted plants.

Samples from rhizospheric soil and root pieces collected from 10 villages of district Pulwama of Kashmir Himalaya were processed for isolation of arbuscular mycorrhizal spores and for their identification with the help of INVAM. The isolated genera were identified as Acaulospora, Scutellospora, Gigaspora, and Glomus.

Experiment was conducted to study the nature and magnitude of genetic variability in twelve genotypes of apple for various horticultural traits during 2018-19 in Kullu valley agroclimate of Himachal Pradesh, so as to identify promising traits on which selection can be made. Sufficient genetic variability was recorded among the genotypes under study. High heritability coupled with high genetic gain was found for the characters viz., trunk girth, tree spread, tree volume, titratable acidity, non-reducing sugars, sugar-acid ratio, fruit volume, fruit set and fruit drop.

Postharvest ripening of apple (Malus x domestica) can be slowed down by low temperatures, and a combination of low O2 and high CO2 levels. While this maintains the quality of most fruit, occasionally storage disorders such as flesh browning can occur.

Individual plants adapt to their immediate environment using a combination of biochemical, morphological and life cycle strategies. Because woody plants are long-lived perennials, they cannot rely on annual life cycle strategies alone to survive abiotic stresses.

Fruit quality features resulting from ripening processes need to be preserved throughout storage for economical reasons. However, during this period several physiological disorders can occur, of which superficial scald is one of the most important, due to the development of large brown areas on the fruit skin surface.
