Ebook "Mesoporous organic-inorganic non-siliceous hybrid materials: Basic principles and promising multifunctionality" provides extensive information on organic-inorganic hybrid materials with controllable compositions and structures developed over the past few decades, including metal sulfonates, carboxylates, phosphonates, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), etc. A variety of judicious strategies for optimizing mesoporosity are also introduced, aiming at realizing the corresponding superiorities of hybrid frameworks in practical applications at the nano-/meso-scale.

This work presents a combined molecular simulation and experimental study to understand the effect of graphene on the packing and gas adsorption performance of a new class of polymers, known as polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs). PIMs can be processed to membranes or other useful forms and their chemistry can be tailored for specific applications.

Hierarchical zeolites containing ruthenium oxide nanoparticles were applied in the reaction of dihydroxyacetone isomerization to alkyl lactates and lactic acid. The synthesis of these materials was performed by dispersing the specified amount of two microporous zeolites (HFAU and NaBEA) withan ultrasound bath for 30 min, in a mixture containing cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, water, ethanol and ammonia.

The multiscale pore structure of mesoporous silica microspheres plays an important role for tuning mass transfer kinetics in technological applications such as liquid chromatography. While local analysis of a pore network in such materials has been previously achieved, multiscale quantification of microspheres down to the nanometer scale pore level is still lacking.

Carbon aerogels prepared from resorcinol formaldehyde organic aerogels have a wide range of use due to their considerably large specific surface area. Since the applications mostly happen in wet form, e.g. in aqueous medium, NMR cryoporometry was employed to follow the porous behavior of an organic aerogel and its carbon derivative, as well as the textural changes after the pyrolysis.

The isomerization of α-pinene – a renewable bioresource – was investigated as a relatively simple method for the syntheses of camphene and limonene, industrially important products. The catalytic activity of H2SO4-modified clinoptilolite was evaluated without any solvent and the results show its applicability as a novel, green, reusable and promising catalyst in organic syntheses.

Structural properties of Pb-exchanged zeolites are of interest because of their applications in environmental remediation and in industrial processes. In this study, we report on a Pb-exchanged stellerite (Pb-STI), with particular focus on the cationic species, which form inside the zeolitic pores as a result of the exchange experiments.

Microporous organic polyimides are well suited for carbon dioxide separation from gas mixtures based on their polar surface and their tendency towards ultramicroporosity. Nevertheless, their application potential is limited due to an inherent insolubility and infusibility, preventing an easy processing into functional objects like membranes.
