The thesis consists of five chapters which aim to investigate the mechanical properties and fabricating processes of different biomedical Ti scaffolds, with the structure presented: Chapter 1 is a generalized introduction to the content of the thesis, including the background, scopes and objectives of the research. In Chapter 2, a comprehensive literature review is presented. Chapter 3 presents the design and fabrication of the Ti scaffolds. In Chapter 4, the mechanical properties of the fabricated Ti scaffolds were analyzed.

Determine the coefficient of water permeability, waterproofing marks, chloride ion diffusion coefficients of some types of concrete commonly used in bridge construction subjected to pre-compressive and direct-compression loads. Develop a predictive model for life expectancy using reinforced concrete bridges taking into consideration the effect of the load according to the criteria of initial corrosion of reinforcement in concrete. Application of life expectancy for the structure of reinforced concrete bridges.

Different criteria are available in the literature to assess the fracture behaviour of sharp V-notches. A typical and well-known criterion is based on the application of the notch stress intensity factors (NSIFs), which are able to quantify the intensity of the stress fields ahead of the notch tip.

In this paper, maximum tangential stress (MTS) concept is used for determination of the fracture initiation angles of silicon/ glass bi-material notches. First, the MTS criterion is analytically formulated for a bi-material notch problem.

The novel equivalent material concept, proposed originally by the author, was utilized together with the mean stress and the point stress failure concepts to predict the load-carrying capacity of O-notched ductile steel plates under pure tension.

The signaling properties of the gasotransmitter molecule hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is endogenously generated in plant cells, are mainly observed during persulfidation, a protein post-translational modification (PTM) that affects redox-sensitive cysteine residues. There is growing experimental evidence that H2S in higher plants may function as a mechanism of response to environmental stress conditions.

An immuno-homologue of maize Ca2+/calmodulin (CaM)dependent protein kinase with a molecular mass of 72 kDa was identified in pea. The pea kinase (PsCCaMK) was upregulated in roots in response to low temperature and increased salinity. Exogenous Ca2+ application increased the kinase level and the response was faster than that obtained following stress application. Low temperaturemediated, but not salinity-mediated stress kinase increase was inhibited by the application of EGTA and W7, a CaM inhibitor....

There is growing concern about the safety of engineered nanoparticles, which are produced for various industrial applications. Quantum dots are colloidal semiconductor nanoparticles that have unique luminescence char-acteristics and the potential to become attractive tools for medical imaging. However, some of these particles can cause oxidative stress and induce cell death.

Toxin–antitoxin systems, as found in bacterial plasmids and their host chromosomes, play a role in the maintenance of genetic information, as well as in the response to stress. We describe the basic biology of the parD⁄kiskidtoxin–antitoxin system of Escherichia coliplasmid R1, with an emphasis on regulation, toxin activity, potential applications in biotech-nology and its relationships with related toxin–antitoxin systems.
