Nowadays, in Vietnam as in the world, traditional building materials are increasingly scarce while industrial waste is produced more and more. In this paper, the author uses steel slag, a byproduct of steelmaking processes, for replacing crushed aggregate in base or subbase course. Steel slag-stone dust aggregate (70% steel slag and 30% stone dust) are treated with a cement content of 4%- 8%.

This is due to the reduction of calcium hydroxide and the increase of secondary CSH in the cement matrix from the pozzolanic reaction of a mineral admixture. The result of the study with modern experiment methods confirmed the improvement of strength and durability for hardened cement using mineral admixture, thereby ensuring the good applicability of the additional admixtures used in concrete of marine structures.

Analysis of multiple equilibria of compounds with different coordination sites is extended to the description of adsorption isotherms with focus on the low relative pressure range. The entropy evolution is described using the particle distribution theory which also holds for adsorbents consisting of materials bearing more than one type of sites and applies for the condition that the adsorptive-adsorbent binding strength is larger than the adsorptiveadsorbate binding strength, so that monolayer coverage is favored.

The developed and implemented DEM-based strategy is applied to analyze stiffness and strength of inverse opals made of pure silica and inverse opals coated with titania layers of various thicknesses. Also, the influence of the porosity of the initial packing on the properties of the material is investigated.

Silk fibroin, which has many characteristic properties such as low inflammation reaction, biodegradation, suppleness, good antithrombogenic details, biocompatibility and high tensile strength is a very good candidate for biomedical applications. Electrospinning procures high surface area, porous, nanofiber dimension fiber generation, which is a plain method. An experimental study was carried out to produce nanofiber structure from silk fibroin by electrospinning and the electrospinning parameters for the spinning of uniform, continuous and silk fibroin fibers were optimized.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ultrasound application on the surface microhardness (VHN) and diametral tensile strength (DTS) of three high viscous glass-ionomer restorative materials (HVGIRMs). For each test (VHN and DTS), a total of 180 specimens were prepared from three HVGIRMs (Ketac-Molar Aplicap, Fuji IX GP Fast, and ChemFil Rock). Specimens of each material (n = 60) were further subdivided into three subgroups (n = 20) according to the setting modality whether ultrasound (20 or 40 s) was applied during setting or not (control).

The combination of polymer and silica fume to produce mortars results in excellent properties, which are ideal for repairs and revetments requiring high performance. Such improvements justify its study for the installation of porcelain tiles. This article presents bond strength results for mortars containing different amounts of polymer and silica fume indicating the applicability of these mortars as a construction material.

Concrete is an inherently brittle material with a relatively low tensile strength compared to compressive strength. Reinforcement with randomly distributed short fibres presents an effective approach to the stabilization of the crack and improving the ductility and tensile strength of concrete. A variety of fibre types, including steel, synthetics, and natural fibres, have been applied to concrete. Polypropylene (PP) fibre reinforcement is considered to be an effective method for improving the shrinkage cracking characteristics, toughness, and impact resistance of concrete materials.

The surface modification of engineering materials by laser beam scanning (LBS) allows the improvement of properties in terms of reduced wear, increased corrosion resistance, and better strength. In this study, the laser beam scan method was applied to produce an oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) structure on a zirconium metal surface. A recrystallized Zircaloy-4 alloy sheet with a thickness of 2 mm, and Y2O3 particles of 10 μm were selected for ODS treatment using LBS.

Results show that this method gives a solution which is more general than the solutions illustrated in the textbook of Strength of Materials. The developed formulations may expand the applied sphere of the dynamic amplification factor (DAF), kd, as in the case of driving inclined piles.

In this paper, the Dung’s microscopic damage model which depicts void growth under plastic deformation is applied to predict ductile fractures in high strength steel API X65. The model is implemented as a vectorized userdefined material subroutine (VUMAT) in the ABAQUS/Explicit commercial finite element code.

Two chemical treatments were applied to jute fibers to create a better bonding of fiber to resin in natural composite materials. The jute fibers have been treated with hydroxide potassium (KOH) and a bleaching agent, canxi hypochlorite (Ca(OCl)2.4H2O), in varying periods. Characterization techniques such as FT-IR, SEM were used to evaluate the effect of chemical treatments on fiber structure. After treatment the surface topography of jute was clean and microfibrils were revealed, these lead to an enhancement in mechanical properties and interfacial strength between jute fiber and PP.

With advantages such as high strength, high stiffness, high chemical resistance, light weight…composite tubes are widely applied in urban construction and petroleum industry. In this report, the authors used the displacement method to study the mechanical behavior (stress, strain…) of an infinite hollow cylinder made of composite material under unsteady, axisymmetric plane temperature field. In the numerical calculations, we mainly studied the influence of time and volume ratio of the particle on the displacement and thermoelastic stress of a cylinder made of Titanium /PVC composite. ...
