Ebook "Bleach plant effluents from the pulp and paper industry" covers bleach plant effluents, that most polluting effluent from the pulp and paper industry. Disappearance of benthic invertebrates, a high incidence of fish diseases, and mutagenic effects on the aquatic fauna are some of the consequences of the disposal of bleach effluents into surface waters.

This paper presents the results of water quality assessment of clam farming areas for 3 monitoring points in Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province. From the results of the assessment, this study suggests management measures, including improving water quality index used to zoning water quality, thus better managing clam areas; and technical measure which improves farming techniques to protect the aquatic environment of farmers.

Microplastics are nowadays considered ubiquitous pollutants since they have been found widespread in all environmental compartments, particularly in aquatic systems. In urban water bodies, municipal wastewater discharges and overflows of combined storm and wastewater drains are the sources of microplastic pollution.

The organic dyes have beenwidely used in the textile industry for last decades. Nowadays, they have also known as toxic and polluted compounds because of their high persistence in soil sediments and water resources. These chemicals may be degraded to the carcinogens and toxic products under sunlight irradiation, affecting aquatic life and ecosystem.

The residual antibiotics in the environment have lately caused widespread concerns. However, little information is available on antibiotic pollution and its ecological risk to water resources of Saigon river. The research findings have revealed the significance and necessity of protecting the Saigon River water from contamination by antibiotics for domestic water supplies and aquaculture.

Water treatment has been an essential issue with the increasing population over 40 years. Researchers center on the major organic pollutants, such as dyes, pesticides, and pharmaceutical products. Photocatalytic degradation is one of the promising methods for aquatic organic pollutant treatment. Over the years, scientists have been working on developments for photocatalysts to enhance their pollutant degradation performances.

Phytoremediation is a method of using plants to extract, isolate or detoxify pollutants through chemical, physical and biological processes. For years, this method has been considered as an effective method for wastewater treatment thanks to its high efficiency, low cost, stability, and simplicity of operation. Besides, this wastewater treatment technology is environmentally friendly since it increases biodiversity and contributesto the landscape of the environment and local ecosystems.

Chlamydia-like organisms (CLO) have been found to be present in many environmental niches, including human sewage and agricultural run-of, as well as in a number of aquatic species worldwide. Therefore, monitoring their presence in sentinel wildlife species may be useful in assessing the wider health of marine food webs in response to habitat loss, pollution and disease.

The distribution of micro-plastics (MPs) has been documented all over the world though there is a paucity of data in Africa. The study aimed to recapitulate existing information on MP pollution in African aquatic environments and to identify existing research gaps. Only 42% of the studies reported on polymer type citing lack of availability of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy or other instrumental equipment.

Isotope ratio analysis of total organic carbon (TOC) is well-established for the study of rivers, lakes, and oceans. Similarly, these aquatic systems are routinely surveyed to quantify natural and anthropogenic organic compounds and pollutants, including such things as pharmaceuticals, illicit drugs, and phthalates.

For water quality assessment, based on TCVN 7220-2: 2002, the water in Van Long RAMSAR is in low level of pollution. According to ASPT index on average (3.42), this parameter was under medium to heavily polluted. The results recommend utilizing family taxon of macrozoobenthos with the recorded scales to assess quality of aquatic environments of freshwater bodies in northern Vietnam.

Disposal of contaminated wastewater causes many serious problems especially when it gets mixed with the ground and seawater. It is, therefore, important to apply any remedial action to eradicate dangerous pollutants from the aqueous effluents and to avoid exposure of this wastewater to aquatic life. The research results discussed herein deal with the removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) and Congo Red (CR) dye from wastewater by using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as an adsorbent.

Water is considered to be one of the essential resources for the survival of living beings. The vital resource is exposed to toxic pollutant due to the untreated industrial discharge from tannery, textile and other industries. Effluents discharged from the tannery and textile industries contains an ample of heavy metals and other toxic azo dyes which affects the living beings including aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna. The removal of this toxic compounds from the water bodies has become a challenge to the human society.

In the science of aquatic toxicology, fish play an important role in toxicity testing and hazard evaluation, as do the white rat and guinea pig in mammalian toxicology (Anon, 1972), especially teleost fish may be a good indicator of pollution as their biochemical responses are almost similar to that of mammals (Banaee et al., 2008).
