Study on the adsorption L- and D- proline on MKN-MWCNT-P5000 carbon nanotubes from aqueous solutions
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are a new type of nano-adsorbent material with unique properties, which are promising adsorbents for the separation of enantiomers. Information regarding the interaction mechanism of enantiomers with carbon nanotubes has not yet been fully explored yet.

Adsorbents functionalized with polyol are considered to be effective for the removal of boron from aqueous solutions. In this work, polyol-functionalized chitosan particles were successfully synthesized. Batch experiments were conducted for the determination of the optimal conditions for the highest degree of gluconated groups being grafted to chitosan substrate.

The main aim of this investigation was to develop a low-cost solution to remove trace metals from the aqueous phase using biochar. This study investigated (i) the effect of giant reed-based biochar produced at varying temperatures in the treatment of aqueous solutions polluted with lead; and (ii) how the production of biochar at different temperatures affected its adsorption capacity for lead from the aqueous phase.

The target of this project is to construct a general and feasible procedure to determine the acidic equilibrium constants in aqueous solution at 25oC from the data of the potentiometric titration process in a rapid, simple and effective way. Then it will be applied to estimate the equilibrium constants of some new acids.

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 protein R (HIV-1 Vpr) promotes nuclear entry of viral nucleic acids in nondividing cells, causes G2 cell cycle arrest and is involved in cellular differentiation and cell death. Vpr subcellular localization is as variable as its functions. It is known, that consistent with its role in nuclear transport, Vpr localizes to the nuclear envelope of human cells. Further, a reported ion channel activity of Vpr is clearly dependent on its localization in or at membranes.

Uridine-5¢-diphospho-1-a-D-glucose (UDP-Glc) is a common substrate used by glucosyltransferases, including certain bacterial toxins such as Toxins A and B from Clostridium difficile. Fluorescent analogs of UDP-Glc have been prepared for use in our studies of the clostridial toxins. These compounds are related to the methylanthraniloylATP compounds commonly used to probe the chemistry of ATP-dependent enzymes. The reaction of excess methylisatoic anhydride with UDP-Glc in aqueous solution yields primarily the 2¢ and 3¢ isomers of methylanthraniloyl-UDPGlc (MUG).

Báo cáo Y học: Solution structure of a hydrophobic analogue of the winter flounder antifreeze protein
The solution structure of a synthetic mutant type I antifreeze protein (AFP I) was determined in aqueous solution at pH 7.0 using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The mutations comprised the replacement of the four Thr residues by Val and the introduction of two additional Lys-Glu salt bridges. The antifreeze activity of this mutant peptide, VVVV2KE, has been previously shown to be similar to that of the wild type protein, HPLC6 (defined here as TTTT).

To investigate how solubility and steric issues affect the laccase-catalysedoxidationof phenols, a series of oligomeric polyphenol compounds, having increasing size and decreasing solubility in water, was incubated with laccase. The extent of substrate conversion, and the nature of the products formed in buffered aqueous solutions, were com-pared to those obtained in the presence of an organic cosolvent, and also in the presence of twomediating species, i.e. N-hydroxyphthalimide (HPI) and 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidin-1-yloxy (TEMPO). ...

Nacre organic matrix has been conventionally classified as both water-soluble and water-insoluble,basedonits solubility in aqueous solutions after decalcificationwith acid or EDTA. Some characteristics (aspartic acid-rich, silk-fibroin-like content) were specifically attributed to either one or the other. The comparative study on the technique of extraction (extraction with water alone vs. demineralization with EDTA) presented here, seems to reveal that this gen-erally accepted classification may need to be reconsidered....

The high-resolution 3D structure of the octapeptide hor-mone angiotensin II (AII) in aqueous solution has been obtained bysimulated annealing calculations, using high-resolutionNMR-derived restraints. After final refinement in explicit water, a familyof 13 structures was obtained with a backbone RMSD of 0.73 ± 0.23 A˚ . AII adopts a fairly compact folded structure, with its C-terminus and N-ter-minus approaching towithin7.2 A ˚ of eachother.

Conformational studies on amyloidb peptide (Ab) in aqueous solution are complicated by its tendency to aggregate. In this study, we determined the atomic-level structure of Ab28)42 in an aqueous environment. We fused fragments of Ab, residues 10–24 (Ab10)24) or 28–42 (Ab28)42), to three positions in the C-terminal region of ribonuclease HII from a hyper-thermophile, Thermococcus kodakaraensis(Tk-RNase HII).

It has been previously reported that the structure of a human pancreatic ribonuclease variant, namely PM8, constitutes a dimer by the exchange of an N-terminal domain, although in an aqueous solution it is found mainly as a monomer. First, we investigated the solution conditions that favour the dimerization of this variant.

Quantitation of superoxide radical (O2 – Æ) production at the site of radical generation remains challenging. A simple method to detect nanomolar to micromolar levels of superoxide radical in aqueous solution has been devel-oped and optimized. This method is based on the efficient trapping of O2 – Æ using a novel fluorescent probe (2-chloro-1,3-dibenzothiazolinecyclohex-ene), coupled with a spectra character-signaling increase event.
