The plant homeodomain (PHD) finger is a Cys4HisCys3-type zinc finger which promotes proteinprotein interactions and binds to the cis-acting elements in the promoter regions of target genes. In Medicago truncatula, five PHD homologues with full-length sequence were identified. However, the detailed function of PHD genes was not fully addressed.

Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is the process in which somatic embryos develop from somatic tissue in vitro on medium in most cases supplemented with growth regulators. Knowledge of genes involved in regulation of initiation and of development of somatic embryos is crucial for application of SE as an efficient tool to enable genetic improvement across genotypes by clonal propagation.

The Arabidopsis AtMYB80 transcription factor regulates genes involved in pollen development and controls the timing of tapetal programmed cell death (PCD). Downregulation of AtMYB80 expression precedes tapetal degradation.

An important signal transduction pathway in plant defence depends on the accumulation of salicylic acid (SA). SA is produced in chloroplasts and the multidrug and toxin extrusion transporter ENHANCED DISEASE SUSCEPTIBILITY5 (EDS5; At4g39030) is necessary for the accumulation of SA after pathogen and abiotic stress.

The CRISPR/Cas9 system has been used predominantly for precise editing of the plant genomes. In the present study, we have made an application of CRISPR/Cas9 system for targeted mutagenesis in rice(Oryza sativa L.) targeting the Phytochrome and Flowering Time 1 (PFT1) gene known to be involved in disease susceptibility in Arabidopsis for rootinfecting hemibiotrophic fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum. Hence, to confirm the role of OsPFT1 gene in rice sheath blight disease, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing tool is being employed for generating OsPFT1 gene knock out in rice.

Using cDNA subtraction technique, 18 cold stress responsive-genes were identified, among them a novel gene, ZmCOI6.1, whose function is still unknown. Analysis of the ZmCOI6.1 promoter sequence revealed several conserved stress-responsive cis-acting elements. Further expression characterization shows that ZmCOI6.1 is induced, in addition by cold, by other abiotic stresses such as drought and NaCl as well as by signalling molecules such as ABA and SA. The results indicate that ZmCOI6.1 is a general stress responsive gene. A possible regulation mechanism is presented where ZmCOI6.

The homodimeric 2C-methyl-d-erythritol 4-phosphate cytidylyltransferase contributes to the nonmevalonate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis. The crystal structure of the catalytic domain of the recombinant enzyme derived from the plant Arabidopsis thalianahas been solved by molecular replace-ment and refined to 2.0 A˚ resolution.
