Archaeological types

There is growing interest in rock surface burial and exposure luminescence dating for use in Quaternary science and in archaeology. Such methods have enormous potential both in increasing the range of sedimentary contexts that can be dated, and improving the accuracy and the precision of dating within those contexts.

Physical and mechanical properties of seven ancient clay brick samples of Kathmandu valley consisting of quartz, feldspars, spinel, margarite, muscovite type of mica mineral and hematite were studied using ASTM standards. All the brick samples used in this study have the water absorption, apparent porosity and bulk density in the range of 10-28 percent, 17-33 percent and 1.2-1.8 g/cm3 , respectively, while the compressive strength of all the brick samples is found to be in the range of 5-23 MPa.

This study aimed to exploit laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, enhanced by nanoparticles (NELIBS), as a fast, sensitive and low-cost technique, to correlate the elemental composition of recent and ancient bovine bone with the elemental composition of the fodder that has been fed to the cattle throughout their life. Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (BS-Ag NPs) were used to enhance the emission intensity of the spectral lines in the LIBS spectra of contemporary and ancient bovine bones and fodder samples.

The result of this research shows that the founded and developed cities in Safavid Iran, specially expanded on Silk Road in Shah Abbas I’s reign (996-1083H.), played the role of producer, distributer and exporter in North, Center and South of Iran. According to this produce and exchange system, the functional cities in Safavid era are divided in to three types: producer of raw materials, intermediary and processing and finally exporter (port) cities.

These are the first prehistoric archaeological findings in volcanic caves in Vietnam, which will be studied in more detail by Vietnam National Museum of Nature, VAST, and other authorized agencies to highlight a new type of settlement, a new adaptive trend of prehistoric dwellers in the Central Highlands and to open a new archaeological study in the volcanic caves in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Comparison of the sizes of burnt rice seeds from archaeological sites in Northern Vietnam indicates that rice seeds mainly belong to the round plump (short round) type, which includes summer glutinous rice and field glutinous rice. These findings suggest that rice became a popular crop in the life of ancient Vietnamese as early as 3,000 years ago, and was widely distributed in the North of the country.

There is more direct evidence of domestication of the South American camelids than of the old world ones. The archaeological evidence suggests that llama and alpaca were domesticated at very high altitudes of 4000 to 5000 m in the Andes of southern Peru and western Bolivia. An approximate time of first domestication would be about 6000 years BP.
