A study of correlation and path analysis was undertaken in two F2 populations of Tomato in two promising hybrids Arka Samrat and Arka Rakshak for fruit yield and its component traits. This study helps in identifying the characters which mainly contributing to yield per plant.

The front line demonstrations (FLD’s) on Arka Rakshak F1 Hybrid of tomato were conducted by Krishi Vigan Kendra of Ramanagara District, Karnataka. The present investigation was undertaken to assess the reaction of the hybrid “Arka Rakshak” towards three major diseases prevalent in the district and thereby find an eco-friendly and simple solution to manage all these devastating diseases for which farmers are spending lots of money and time. The results clearly revealed that 40.4 % higher fruit size, 38.8 % more numbers of fruits per plant and an average of 103.9 % more crop yield was recorded, there was no BLB incidence, the severity of ALB was as low as 10 %, TLCV incidence was negligible and found to be just 1 % in Arka Rakshak.

An experiment was conducted to study the performance of parents and F1 hybrids along with two checks viz., Arka Rakshak and Arka Samrat for quality parameters. An experiment was conducted at College of Horticulture, Bagalkot, University of Horticulture Sciences, Bagalkot during kharif, 2018 in Randomized Block Design with three replications. Twelve diverse lines of tomato were crossed with four testers in line x tester mating design. The resultant 48 F1 hybrids along with 16 parents and two checks were evaluated for quality traits in tomato.

Tomato leaf curl disease is the most devastating disease, caused by tomato leaf curl virus (ToLCV) a Gemini virus transmitted by the vector Bemesia tabaci Gen. In this study 17 F2:3 families of tomato derived from the cross IIHR 2201 x C-13-1-2-1 along with the parents IIHR 2201, C-13-1-2-1 and check Arka Vikas (Succeptible), Arka Rakshak(Resistant) were screened against resistant/ Succeptible reaction for tomato leaf curl disease under field condition, during 2017-18 from end of October to beginning of February in the Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture, Bengaluru.

The temperature increase above the optimum level cause irreversible damage to plant growth and development. Plants respond to high temperature through acclimation (acquired thermotolerance) by adopting several physiological and biochemical mechanisms to overcome high temperature stress. The investigation was carried out to study the general combining ability and specific combining ability in genotypes and their cross combinations for yield and quality characters. Six tomato lines, fifteen cross combinations derived from 6×6 half diallel fashion with Arka Rakshak as check cultivar/line were taken for the experiment.
