Arterial hypotension
-
Hypotension and bradycardia are common hemodynamic complications following carotid artery stenting in patients with carotid artery stenosis. Intravenous fluid resuscitation and inotropes such as dopamine are conventional treatments for post-carotid artery stenting hypotension.

Paroxysmal hypertension can be associated with failure of the carotid artery baroreceptors due to past exposure to radiation treatment. This report describes a patient whose repeated paroxysmal hypertensive episodes were ameliorated following placement of a carotid artery stent for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis.

A 33-year-old G2 P1001 female at 13 weeks of gestation presented with dyspnea, tachycardia, and hypotension. Initial assessment revealed cardiogenic shock and acute respiratory failure caused by extremely severe pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH).

To evaluate the impact of intraoperative hypotension and hemodynamic instability on survival out‑ comes in patients with high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). Methods: We retrospectively identified patients with HGSOC, who underwent primary or interval debulking surgery between August 2013 and December 2019. We collected anesthesia-related variables, including the arterial blood pressure measurements (at 1-min intervals) during the surgery of patients.

Mean arterial pressure above 65 mmHg is recommended for critically ill hypotensive patients whereas they do not benefit from supranormal cardiac output values. In this study we investigated if the increase of mean arterial pressure after volume expansion could be predicted by cardiovascular and renal variables.

Shoulder surgery is often performed in the beach-chair position, a position associated with arterial hypotension and subsequent risk of cerebral ischaemia. It can be performed under general anaesthesia or with an interscalene brachial plexus block, each of which has specific advantages but also specific negative effects on blood pressure control. It would be worthwhile to combine the advantages of the two, but the effects of the combination on the circulation are not well investigated.

The altered hemodynamics, and therefore the arterial hypotension is the most prevalent adverse effect after subarachnoid anesthesia. The objective of the study was to determine the exact role of local anesthetic selection underlying spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension in the elderly patient.

It is unknown to what extent hypotension frequently observed following administration of propofol for induction of general anesthesia is caused by overdosing propofol. Unlike clinical signs, electroencephalon-based cerebral monitoring allows to detect and quantify an overdose of hypnotics. Therefore, we tested whether the use of an electroencephalon-based cerebral monitoring will cause less hypotension following induction with propofol.

During anaesthesia it is not uncommon to administer epinephrine in patients blocked by non-depolarizing muscle relaxants. However, there are few reports on possible interaction of epinephrine with neuromuscular transmission in humans.

Intraoperative blood pressure is a relevant variable for postoperative outcome in infants undergoing surgical procedures. It is therefore important to know whether the type of anesthesia has an impact on intraoperative blood pressure management in very low birth weight infants. Here, we retrospectively analyzed intraoperative blood pressure in very low birthweight infants receiving either awake caudal anesthesia without sedation, or caudal block in combination with general anesthesia, both for open inguinal hernia repair.

CNAP monitor is a continuous and noninvasive blood pressure (BP) measurement device that can be used in intraoperative monitoring. But whether its accuracy changes with age and its detectability of hypertension and hypotension are still unclear. This study was to investigate the agreement of CNAP and invasive arterial pressure (IAP) in different age groups, and the ability of CNAP to detect hypertension and hypotension.

Induction of general anesthesia increases the hemodilution resulting from infusion of crystalloid fluid, which is believed to be due to slower distribution caused by arterial hypotension. When normal distribution returns is not known.

Deliberate hypotension is used to provide a bloodless field during functional endoscopic sinus surgery; however, the impact of controlled hypotension during anesthesia on peripheral tissue perfusion has not been extensively evaluated. The aim of this study was to compare the impact of nitroglycerin- versus labetalolinduced hypotension on peripheral perfusion.

Renal dysfunction following intraoperative arterial hypotension is mainly caused by an insufficient renal blood flow. It is associated with higher mortality and morbidity rates. We hypothesised that the intraoperative haemodynamics are more stable during xenon anaesthesia than during isoflurane anaesthesia in patients undergoing partial nephrectomy.

Hypotension after neuraxial anaesthesia is one of the most common complications during caesarean section. Vasopressors are the most effective method to improve hypotension, but which of these drugs is best for caesarean section is not clear. We assessed the effects of vasopressors on the contractile response of uterine arteries and superior mesenteric arteries in pregnant rats to identify a drug that increases the blood pressure of the systemic circulation while minimally affecting the uterine and placental circulation.

Hypothermia: Treatment When a patient is hypothermic, target organs and the cardiovascular system respond minimally to most medications. Moreover, cumulative doses can cause toxicity during rewarming because of increased binding of drugs to proteins, and impaired metabolism and excretion. As an example, the administration of repeated doses of digoxin or insulin would be ineffective while the patient is hypothermic, and the residual drugs are potentially toxic during rewarming. Achieving a mean arterial pressure of at least 60 mmHg should be an early objective.
