Arteriovenous malformation
-
The main aim of this study is to define the clinical criteria which must be considered in order to come to an adequate decision whether a patient with intracranial arteriovenous malformation (AVM) should be operated upon or treated conservatively.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations are mostly caused by congenitally abnormal shunts between pulmonary arteries and pulmonary veins. Our findings imply that bronchiectasis can cause pulmonary arteriovenous malformations, and thus patients who present with hypoxemia with bronchiectasis should be carefully evaluated.

Brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare congenital developmental vascular lesions, and often presents with symptoms upon rupture. The controversy exists as to whether pregnancy confers an increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage. The diagnosis of brain AVMs, in the absence of brain imaging, is challenging in resource-limited settings, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.

Ebook "Clinical diagnosis in plastic surgery" is not only intended to benefit the patients of plastic surgeons in training, but also those who present to other medical and surgical practitioners for diagnosis and appropriate referral. Photographs of clinical problems are categorized by anatomic area including the face and facial skeleton, the hand, the integument, the breast, and the trunk. Please refer to part 2 of the ebook for details!

We present a case of a woman at 31 weeks and 3 days of gestation, who developed a sudden and severe headache and loss of vision in her left eye. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain revealed a subarachnoid bleed secondary to a right parieto-occipital arteriovenous malformation (AVM).

Choriocarcinoma in a viable pregnancy is uncommon. The diagnosis can easily be missed when there is an explanation for the clinical symptoms that the cancer can mimic. We present the case of a primigravid patient whose choriocarcinoma was initially missed as a result of seemingly obvious explanations for her atypical history and disease manifestation.

Our case presented diagnostic difficulties for the pediatrician and mental health facility as the 14-year-old girl presented with erratic behavior issues, hallucinations, and normal basic blood work results. She was diagnosed as having schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Investigations performed at our facility diagnosed this as a clinically isolated syndrome in addition to frontal lobe AVM.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, also known as Osler–Weber–Rendu disease, induces arteriovenous malformations in visceral organs. Arteriovenous malformations increase the risk of severe infections and are a common complication associated with hemorrhagic telangiectasia.

To assess the effectiveness of radiosurgery with a rotating gamma system (RGS) for paediatric brain tumours and arteriovenous malformation (AVM), this work was carried out on 123 patients with brain tumours or AVM received radiosurgery at Bach Mai hospital. The median dose was 13 Gy from a range of 8 to 20 Gy.

The use of Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) system to treat medically refractory neuropathic pain is increasing. Severe neuropathic pain can be found in giant chest wall arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), exceedingly rare and debilitating abnormalities, rarely reported during pregnancy.

Patients with pulmonary arteriovenous malformations usually complain of dyspnoea upon exertion, fatigue or migraine, or may be asymptomatic. We describe a patient with an unreported manifestation of a pulmonary arteriovenous malformation: A severe chronic cough.

The purpose of this study was to assess the safety and efcacy of percutaneous transcatheter embolization (TCE) for the treatment of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs). Methods: Forty-three consecutive patients (n=17 males; n=26 females) with 72 untreated PAVMs underwent coil and/or plug embolization between January 2010 and February 2018. The mean patient age was 42±14 years (range 19–71 years).

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are present in approximately 15–50% individuals with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). They may be isolated but more often are multiple. The goal of this study was to evaluate the influence of PAVMs on lung mechanical properties.

The anterior choroidal artery (AChA) is a critical artery in brain physiology and function. The AChA is involved in many diseases, including aneurysm, brain infarct, Moyamoya disease (MMD), brain tumor, arteriovenous malformation (AVM), etc. The AChA is vulnerable to damage during the treatment of these diseases and is thus a very important vessel.
