Systemic lupus erythematosus is an inflammatory disease affecting several organs. Serositis is one of the systemic lupus erythematosus presentations, but peritonitis is a relatively rare presentation. Particularly, it is extremely rare to observe peritonitis as the first presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus.

Precision medicine highlights the importance of incorporating molecular genetic testing into standard clinical care. Next-generation sequencing can detect cancer-specific gene mutations, and molecular-targeted drugs can be designed to be effective for one or more specific gene mutations.

Flood syndrome is caused by spontaneous rupture of an umbilical hernia in a patient with tense, long-standing ascites. It is a rare complication of hepatic cirrhosis and has a high mortality rate. Flood syndrome is so named because a rush of ascitic fluid often follows the spontaneous umbilical hernia rupture.

In this study, an anti-MSA polyclonal antibody (pAb) was generated in rabbit with titers of 1:2 700 000 and purified by nProtein A affinity chromatography with purity greater than 90%. The purified antibody was conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (HRP) by the m-periodate method with an optimal working dilution of 1:64 000 in direct ELISA.

Meigs’ syndrome is defined as the presence of a benign ovarian tumor with pleural effusion and ascites that resolve after removal of the tumor. The pathogenesis of the production of ascites and pleural effusion in this syndrome remains unknown.

The present study was conducted during a one year period (Jan 2013 to Dec 2013). A total of 100 patients with Cirrhotic liver and ascites were included in this study. Gram stain and culture were performed. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed by Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method on Mueller Hinton agar. Out of 100 patients, 36 patients were diagnosed as having SBP.

The development and evaluation of new therapeutic approaches for malignant mesothelioma has been sparse due, in part, to lack of suitable tumor models. Methods: We established primary mesothelioma cultures from pleural and ascitic fluids of five patients with advanced mesothelioma. Electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry (IHC) confirmed their mesothelial origin.

The incidence of tuberculosis in pregnancy is low; moreover, peritoneal tuberculosis (PT) in pregnancy is uncommon as infertility is the commonest sign in case Tuberculosis involves the genitals and/or peritoneum1. The clinical manifestations of tuberculous peritonitis progress insidiously. The present study reported here a case of tuberculous peritonitis in pregnancy presenting with ascites. Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) has become an important clinical problem in past few years.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) means the development of peritonitis (infection in the abdominal cavity) despite the absence of an obvious source of infection. It occurs almost exclusively in people with portal hypertension, usually as a result of liver cirrhosis, our aim of this study was detection of bacterial infections in SBP by conventional method and molecular biology. (19.5%) ascitic fluid (AF) samples were culture positive.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is common and dangerous infection that occurs in 8-27% of cirrhotic inpatients with ascites. In the current study we have demonstrated and compared the diagnostic performance of ascitic fluid lactoferrin and calprotectin in the screening and diagnosis of SBP. In addition we have evaluated ascitic fluid calprotectin to albumin ratio as a novel marker in the diagnosis and Prognosis of SBP. In this cross sectional analytic study, ascitic fluids were collected from 87 cirrhotic patients (49 with SBP and 38 without SBP.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a major complication of cirrhosis and ascites and is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality, The aim of this work is to determine prognostic factors and scores for SBP-related in-hospital mortality, compare the predictive power of CP, MELD, SOFA and AIMS65scores for the prediction of the mortality also to identify the best score cut-off point.

Proteus species are among the commonly implicated pathogens in hospital as well as community acquired infections. They cause nosocomial sinusitis, intra-abdominal abscesses, biliary tract infection, surgical site infection, soft tissue infection and osteomyelitis. They cause significant clinical infections, which are difficult to eradicate especially from hosts with wounds, catheterization, underlying diseases and in immunocompromised states.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a condition where there is development of monomicrobial infection of the ascitic fluid in the absence of any intra-abdominal source of infection and raise in the polymorphonuclear leukocyte cells (PMN) more than 250cells/mm3 . To describe the bacteriological profile and antibiotic susceptibility pattern of isolates in ascitic fluid from patients with SBP. Records of 500 patients with suspected diagnosis of SBP were analyzed for two years (January 2015- December 2016). All patients had undergone paracentesis after admission to the hospital.

Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) are most frequently isolated bacteria from ascitic fluid aspirate of patients with Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP). Aetiology of SBP has been changing in recent years with increased involvement of multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria as a result of production of various β-lactamases. The present study was done for detection of different β-lactamases and their co-existence by noveldisc placement method among GNB isolates from patients with SBP.

Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the most important etiology of community and hospital acquired infections. With an increasing incidence of Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), the aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains and their antibiotic susceptibility pattern in a tertiary care Hospital between July 2017 and July 2018.

Urine, amniotic fluid and ascitic fluid samples of galactosialidosis patients were analyzed and structurally characterized for free oligosaccharides using capillary high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection and online mass spectrometry. In addition to the expected endo-b-N-acetylglucosaminidase-cleaved products of complex-type sialylated N-glycans, O-sulfated oligosaccharide moieties were detected.

Measuring the CT attenuation of intraperitoneal fluid (figures 1, 2.) has proved exceedingly useful in its characterization, because intraperitoneal fluid collections in trauma patients may not always represent blood. Although there is variation with individual scanners, hemoperitoneum usually measures greater than 30 HU. By comparison, water-dense fluids in a trauma patient, such as ascites, urine, bile, or intestinal contents, measure 0 to 5 or 10 HU.
