Conjunctivitis is inflammation of conjunctiva of eye. In recent times, it was found that Gatifloxacin is more safe and effective in treatment of acute form of conjunctivitis than with the same dose of ciprofloxacin. This article presents two case reports in birds wherein Gatifloxacin treatment was used for treatment of conjunctivitis. A female Aseel bird, 1 ½ years old and a Cockatiel bird, 1 year old was brought to the Avian and Exotic Pet Unit of Madras Veterinary College with the history of swollen eyes and off-feed for the past three days.

A study was conducted to know the ratio of giblets on live weight and carcass weight basis of various indigenous chicken breeds. The nutritional value of giblets was also assessed to use a source of nutrition in value added products. Birds of six weeks each of Cobb-400, Vanraja, Aseel, Kadaknath breed reared under deep litter system were sacrificed using halal slaughter procedure. Giblets were collected and processed as per standard procedure. Each and every measurement was taken using digital measurement twice for every reading. Proximate analysis was performed using ISO procedures.

Native birds are considered for cross breeding to develop thermal tolerance and free range varieties to address the adverse climatic conditions and welfare issues respectively. The present study was conducted to assess the performance of two Indigenous breeds Aseel and Kadaknath under hot and humid conditions. The two indigenous breeds were studied for various performance parameters for a period of 12 weeks under standard managemental conditions.

A study was conducted at department of Poultry science, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai to record the qualitative characters of Aseel male chicken and to measure the biometric Characters of the birds. The skin, shank and eye colour were yellow and the colour was red in all the birds (100%). Sixty per cent of bird had red ear lobe and remaining 40% had pinkish red ear lobe. The comb type was ‘Pea’ in 80% of the birds, while it was ‘Rose’ in the remaining birds (20%). The beak colour was either brownish yellow (60%) or blackish yellow (40%). None of the birds had wattles (0%).
