Assessment of bamboo species
-
The aim of our work was to investigate the breeding practices of bamboo rats as farm animals in several provinces of Southern and Northern Vietnam, to assess the involvement of natural populations in the captive breeding of these animals and to assess the agricultural potential of these species and potential risks to biodiversity conservation.

This study reported the experimental analysis on wood briquettes manufactured from Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) and beech wood (Fagus sylvatica), regarded as an economically valuable fuel source. The following properties of briquettes: physical properties (density and moisture content); chemical properties (heating value, namely calorific value, and ash content); thermal properties (thermal conductivity and specific heat); and mechanical properties (breaking strength).

Bamboo can regenerate very fast without replanting and is highly effective in restoring soil degradation. However, impacts of bamboos on soil microbial properties differ at species level. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to quantify and to make a comparative assessment in the status of soil biological properties after 7 years of bamboo plantations. In the study, significant variations were observed in biological properties viz.
