Asthma knowledge

Asthma is a chronic disease of the airways and, despite the advances in the knowledge of associated genetic regions in recent years, their mechanisms have yet to be explored. Several genome-wide association studies have been carried out in recent years, but none of these have involved Latin American populations with a high level of miscegenation, as is seen in the Brazilian population.

Although asthma morbidity can be prevented through long-term controller medication, most patients with persistent asthma do not take their daily inhaled corticosteroid. The objective of this study was to gather patients’ insights into barriers and facilitators to taking long-term daily inhaled corticosteroids as basis for future knowledge translation interventions.

Asthma is among the most common chronic diseases in adults. International guidelines have emphasized the importance of regular spirometry for asthma control evaluation. However, spirometry use in primary care remains low across jurisdictions.

Education of parents concerning the working mechanism, indications and use of asthma medications are an essential part of asthma education. Asthma education should be repeated frequently to parents of children with long-term airway problems or diagnosed asthma.

Some members of Rhododendron genus are traditionally used as medicinal plants for arthritis, acute and chronic bronchitis, asthma, pain, inflammation, rheumatism, hypertension and metabolic diseases. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report on the protective effects of R. oldhamii leaf extract on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in vivo and in vitro.

Air pollution was on an unsustainable track causing photochemical smog and acid depositions, along with health disasters and increased mortality. Indicators, such as acid and sulfate depositions, ambient levels of pollutants, and asthma hospitalizations, that show the current track are decreasing but are still at detrimental levels. Chapter 21 provides knowledge of air pollution.

The transcription factor nuclear factorjB(NF-jB) is an activator of multiple cytokines, chemokines and adhesion molecules, which are important in inflammatory diseases such as asthma, and is consequently considered as an attractive therapeutic target. In the present study, a con-stitutively active dominant version of IjBa,IjBaDN, was introduced into A549 pulmonary cells by adenovirus-mediated delivery. The dominant IjB, but not a null viral vector, prevented the induction of NF-jB-dependent transcription by both tumor necrosis factora(TNFa)and interleukin-1b(IL-1b). ...

Unfortunately, to our knowledge, direct estimates of Mexican WTP for reductions in the health endpoints considered in this paper are not yet available. Therefore, we use WTP parameters (for adult respiratory symptom days, adult reduced activity days, asthma attacks, and chronic bronchitis) that are based on U.S. studies. But given that average income adjusted for purchasing power parity is approximately four times as high in the United States as in Mexico, Mexican WTP may be lower than American WTP. Cultural factors may also cause WTP in the two countries to differ.

Every year in the United States, more teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, and asthma combined. Despite decades of research into brain chemistry and many more decades of probing into behavioral models, there remains a limited base of knowledge as to why people commit suicide. Often what families believe is very different from the beliefs of professionals. How families try to help their suicidal loved ones also is often quite different from the approach taken by experts.
