The Cu(I)-based complex prepared from (S)-2-(furan-2-yl-methylamino)-2-phenylethanol (5c) and CuCl was used as catalyst in enantioselective Henry reactions of arylaldehydes and nitromethane, which gave 89% ee and 95% yield at ambient temperature. The proposed catalytic cycle of an asymmetric Henry reaction was suggested.

NHC–Pd(II) complexes bearing a chiral oxazoline ligand (IIIa–f) were synthesized by cleavage of dimeric palladium complexes with the oxazoline ligand. They were fully characterized by 1 H and 13 C NMR and elemental analyses. The catalytic activity of the complexes (IIIa–f) in allylic alkylation reactions was evaluated. The complex IIIa was found to be the most active catalyst. Very low ee values indicate that the oxazoline is dissociated from the active catalytic species.

Under the green chemistry perspective, bis[(L)prolinate-N,O]Zn (also called zinc–proline or Zn [(L)-pro]2) has proven its competence as a promising alternative in a plethora of applications such as catalyst or promoter. Owing to its biodegradable and non-toxic nature of bis[(L) prolinate-N,O]Zn, it is being actively investigated as a water soluble green catalyst for synthetic chemistry.

In search of new ways to improve catalyst design, the current research focused on using quantum mechanical descriptors to investigate the effect of proline as a catalyst for mechanism and rate of asymmetric aldol reaction. A plausible mechanism of reaction between acetone and 4-nitrobenzaldehyde in acetone medium was developed using highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energies calculated via density functional theory (DFT) at the 6-31G⁄/ B3LYP level of theory.
